 "Subaru-san, please open the door."

"Go away!"

Sighing tiredly you leaned your head against the wooden door and closed your eyes. You had woken up to the sound of things being destroyed in Subaru's room, so you had hurried over to check on him. You should have guessed his door would be locked, but that didn't stop you from knocking and begging him to let you in. Knowing him, he had problems with his anger, so it was expected that he would lash out like this. But you were worried, you always were. Many hours of your life was spent trying to make him happy, but you usually somehow ended up making him angry instead. But now as he was alone in his room, his brothers not even bothering to check on him, you refused to leave until you were able to see that he wasn't hurt.

Yes, you knew he was a vampire and that he couldn't get hurt that easily, but it didn't stop your heart from throbbing when the sound of glass breaking was heard across the mansion. Ever since you had moved into the mansion, the other Sakamaki brothers had told you to just let it go, that Subaru wouldn't let you close no matter how much you tried.

But you had made up your mind. And there was no way you would give up before you saw him smile.

"Subaru-san, please." you spoke quietly, but knew he heard you though the thick door.

"What do you want?!" he screamed back, obviously getting frustrated that you wouldn't leave him alone.

"Guess who I am." you smiled lightly, remembering what your mother used to do when you were a kid and got mad.

"(F/n), go away!"

"I've been called Laugh Maker, I will bring you a smile, so let me in." you spoke with a cheerful tone, even if you were worried. You needed him to know everything was alright, so you did your best. With your forehead still pressed against the door, you listened closely to what was happening inside.

"Leave." Subaru spoke, this time threatening tone in his voice.

"It's cold, so let me in so I can make you laugh, okay?" you spoke again.

"Laugh? What is this? A joke?! Just leave me alone already!" Subaru yelled again, more crashing echoing from the room.

Clenching your jaw tightly, you turned around, leaning your back against the door and sliding down along with it, sitting down on the cold floor. You were very tired, after using up many nights for studying you hadn't been able to sleep much. But you had made up your mind and would stick to your decision.

Hearing the sound of Subaru sitting down on the floor on the other side of the door, you couldn't help but smile a little, knowing you were making progress. You shivered slightly, the night was chilly and sitting on the floor in only shorts and t-shirt didn't help that much against the cold.

"Do you still intend to make me laugh?" Subaru spoke softly, only loud enough for you to barely hear it.

"That is what I live for. I can't be happy before I see you laugh. Before I see you actually smile." you answered, smiling at the thought of what he might look like with a smile decorating his lips.

It was quiet for a long time, you only waiting for Subaru to say something, while he was deep in thought. After a while, you stood up quietly, letting out a small puff of air. With mouse like steps, you made your way down the hallway, not intending to come back to the door any more this night.

"Maybe I'll let you in." Subaru spoke from his room, not realizing he was alone once again. "But you have to open the door yourself. I'm not your butler or anything." waiting for a reply, the white haired boy stood up as he got no answer. "It can't be..." pressing his hands against the door, he leaned his head against it and listened, not hearing anyone outside. "(F/n)!!" he slammed his fist against the door in anger "This isn't a joke! You disappear without minding me! You betrayed me!!"

Subaru was about to punch the door with his fist when the sound of glass breaking could be heard from behind him. Spinning around he faced the large windows on the other side of the room, spotting a silhouette against the moonlight. You stood in the middle of broken glass, holding a pipe and smiling like the fool you were.

"I brought you a smile." you spoke with a slightly edgy voice, like you were scared it would crack if you spoke any louder.

Carefully stepping away from the glass, you made your way slowly over to Subaru who had frozen in place from shock, staring at you. As you reached him, you stopped and took out the pocket mirror you had taken from your room on your way outside, and held it up to his face.

"Your crying face can smile." you smiled brightly, showing him how to do it.

For a while, Subaru did nothing but stared at you with wide and red eyes. But soon his eyes fell to the reflection in the mirror. He saw his own face, cheeks covered in tears and lips slightly swollen after sucking on in a desperate attempt to hold back the angry tears, that still had spilled over.

"So, why don't you smile?" you questioned, the smile still on your own lips.

Amazingly enough, Sakamaki Subaru indeed smiled for the first time in forever.
