Chapter Five

“Rise and Shine baby girl.”

“Mama, it is early. Let me sleep!”

“Baby you have to begin your lessons today. Rictor wanted you there promptly at 6am. If it was up to Professor Torla you would have been studying all of last night.”

“Yea I know Professor Asshole seems to really have it out for me.”

“Young lady you know better to use that language, and while I agree he is stuffy he is your professor, and all of our elders. Have I taught you any manners?”

“Oh Mama you taught me manners alright, you and Papa just also taught me to use my head, and think for myself. Well my judgment of Professor Torla is that he is a genuine one of a kind asshole, who has a stick shoved so far up his butt that even a surgeon couldn’t remove it.”

“Emilae! I will not tolerate that kind of talk. Now get out of bed and get down to that cave, I would like to see my daughter tonight, and have no doubts that he would keep you away just to spite us both.”

“Again Mama I will use the princess card, if anyone so tries to keep you and Papa from seeing me. I want you to come down anytime you like.”

“Of course baby girl, but I will give you time these are your people now after all.”

“Mama, I love you.”

Six am is far too early to be out of bed. That is the first law that I am going to put into effect when I become queen. No activities planned before noon. Unless they involve my Papa and the lovely Ann Marie, that fishing boat, and my Papa are the only things that I will ever venture out of bed before noon for.

I am excited about my lessons today. Just not excited about Professor Asshole, I know that it sounds rude of me, but he really is. He hates me, and talks down to me. No one will talk down to me, not even my parents. If he wants my respect he is going to have to earn it, and until then he is Professor Asshole. Seeing Aslean is what I am looking forward to the most.

Growing up alone I never had that girlfriend to talk to, I never have done the sleepovers, or makeovers. My idea of a girl’s night was Mama and I curled up watching Hallmark. Until now, I have been an only child, and a loner. Today I get a cousin, and a new family. This is my fresh start that I have been waiting for.

“You are late!”

“Thank you captain obvious, if it hadn’t occurred to you yesterday was kind of a crazy day for me. I was trying to get some rest so you would have my fully functioning mind, if you would like a zombie I will gladly be here tomorrow at 4am sharp. Would that please you?”

“I am not going to tolerate this behavior. You will be here every day at 6am not a minute later or you will begin sleeping out here with the rest of us. We are being extremely generous to come to you for lessons, and allowing you to spend extra time with the humans.”

“Again, not to be rude but those humans are my family. You are the ones that should be grateful to me. I have agreed to be your Queen, after living my entire life as one of those humans. I could have ran away but no I am excited, I am looking forward to learning about who I am, and what it means to rule this kingdom. You will accommodate me in every way that I ask.”

“Cousin, listen. Let’s begin with your mere lessons today. I know that you are angry with the Professor but he has a point we only have so much time before you are thrown into our world. Whether anyone likes the old grouch or not you must learn what he has to teach.”

“If he will not treat me with respect I will not learn a thing for him. Professor I suggest you think about how you are going to approach our time together. I will be a cooperative student if you deserve it. “
