Chapter3-RedeemingOneself

Hundreds of people pass by me as I wait for Matthew to show up. I sit on a back, metal chair that has been set near a bundle of green bushes in front of the Edwards Theatre. I caress my star necklace that has been strung on my neck with a silver chain. Fifteen minutes have gone by and Matthew still fails to be here. After ten move agonizing minutes, I decide to leave the theatre, knowing full and well that I have been stood up.

My slender feet drags along the hard pavement of the ground, and I head towards the parking lot. Laughter, and mindless chatter fills my ears as the lively people of Irvine Spectrum enjoy their evening. The cold night settles in my system, and I clutch my sweater tighter, hoping for some warmth.

Just as I was about to call my parents to pick me up, a black Honda appears in front of me. Matthew looks at me through the tainted window of his car. A frown settles in his masculine face.

Matthew rolls down the window and says, "Hold on a minute. Just let me park."

I patiently wait for him to park his car in a tiny space. The sound of his large feet against the concrete floor echoes through the hollow parking lot as he strides towards me. My heart rate picks up as I stare at him. What is it about him? I have seen a handful of handsome men, but he does something to me. It's very strange, and foreign. Whenever I'm near him, my body breeds Argentavis birds in my stomach. He had that much of an effect on me, and he doesn't even do anything.

Matthew approaches me, and looks at me sincerely, "I'm really sorry. I had to do this thing."

I rolled my eyes. Typical.

"Look, let's just watch the movie and go home." I responded bluntly.

I turned around before I could even gauge his reaction. I saunter through the horde of people, and squeezed my way on the ticket booth.

"Two tickets for Frozen. Seven o'clock, please" I asked the clerk.

"I'm sorry tickets for seven o'clock has been sold out. You could try eight o'clock if you come early. Frozen has been sold out for two weeks now."

I stare at her, not believing what she said. When her words finally sunk inside my head, I was conflicted with myself. I don't have to be with him anymore. On one hand, I am glad that I get to go home, and escape his intimidating personality. On the other hand, I want to say with him longer. Despite his rudeness, I still want to spend time with him. I don't know why though. There is something that draws me to him.

Deciding that we would never be a couple, I wanted to go him. That is until Matthew spoke up.

"Well, we have an hour to spend. So, what do you want to do?"

I gape at him in shock. I thought for sure that Matthew would cease this opportunity to go home.

"What? I want to stay here with you. We could go shopping or something." Matthew confess.

"First of all, why would you want to stay here with me? Second, I don't like shopping."

"Well, to answer your first question, I really am trying to make up for what I did to you. On both accounts with ignoring you, and being late. And we could do something else if you don't like shopping."

Huh. So he was genuinely sorry for what he did. I clutched my antique cameo necklace, and stroke the features of my pendant.

It took me a few seconds to make my decision, but I finally answered him "We could go to the ferris wheel."
