The Walking Dead, A New Story

The New Ones

        Jessica heard a noise at the door and gave Dan the signal. Dan ran and got Faith into the hole that could hide her.

        "No, no, I don't want to go in here again!" Faith said before the tears started streaming down her face.

        "Sweetie, it's okay! We're doing this to keep you safe, from the monsters, they can't get you if you hide here. Now please get in there where it's safe."

        "O-ok, you promise I'll be safe if I hide?!" replied Faith.

        ".... Yes, I promise" Dan embraced her with the hugs that always made her feel better. When she first rode her bike with no training wheels, when she heard the monsters in the closet, the hugs always made her feel better.

        "Umm Dan, we need you," Jessica said from across the way.

        "Okay now go," Dan said smiling as Faith got down and looked up at him. With one last smile he pulled the wooden board over her head, taking away all the light.

        "LET ME IN!" said the voice coming from outside the door.

        "Was that a man?" asked Jessica. "Dan, go get Chloe and Ethan! Tell them to be ready."

        "I'm on it," Dan replied nervously as he went to get them. Jessica held up her gun and pointed it to the door while Dan ran to get Chloe and Ethan.

        "ETHAN!" Dan yelled as he ran down the passage. As he turned the corner he saw that Ethan and Chloe were in the room with Kaitlyn.

        "What's wrong Dan?" Chloe asked in a monotone voice.

        "We have a little situation down at base," Dan replied as he walked over to the guns and pulled out four small hand guns, making sure carefully that each gun was loaded before turning to them again. "Are you okay using one of these again?" Dan asked looking at Kaitlyn.

        "Yeah.........Why are you asking?!" Kaitlyn replied, with a look of both fear and regret in her eyes.

        "Dan, seriously, what's going on?" Chloe asked again, this time in a more demanding voice. Ethan walked up behind her and rested his hand on her shoulder.

       "We just have a little situation down at base that's all, we think it might be a man but we're not sure yet," Dan replied in a calming voice, looking from Chloe over to Kaitlyn. Just as Dan opened his mouth to speak again, Jessica screamed. And it was a loud scream.

        "Come on!" Dan said as he started running back down to base. Chloe and Ethan followed, running right behind him. As they got down to base, they saw that their precious door had failed. There was a man sitting on the floor crawling away from the corpses and Jessica was on the ground fighting one of them off of her. Dan took a second to take it all in and then held up his gun, aimed at the one on Jessica, and fired. He hit the corpse right in the head, and it slid right off Jessica. She sprang up in a hurry and started firing at them. Dan then turned to the group.

        "Chloe, go help Jessica. Kaitlyn and Ethan, go make sure no more can get in by the door, and I'll go help that man." Chloe had already ran over to Jessica while Kaitlyn and Ethan nodded and ran over to the door. They were all shooting for several minutes. Dan was near the stach to ammo so he threw more to anyone who needed it. This system worked this time, but they knew it wouldn't work forever. As the corpses calmed down in numbers, we all had a second to breathe. Kaitlyn sat down on the ground next to the door, wiping the sweat off her face as she held her gun. Chloe and Ethan shared a hug while Dan moved over to the board amd let Faith out. She was crying. Dan lifted her out of the hole and gave her another hug.

        "Its okay now, I got you." Dan said as he embraced her and in a few seconds, she had stopped crying.  Jessica was looking over at them smiling. As Faith lifted her head from Dan's shoulder, she gasped suddenly.

        "Who is that?" Faith asked motioning towards the man on the floor. Jessica looked over and in a sudden she had her gun pointed at him.

        "Who are you? Where did you come from?!" Jessica asked in a demanding tone. The man looked shocked, like he had never seen anything like this before. Ethan and Chloe broke their embrace and looked over at them. Kaitlyn sat on the ground staring also. Just as the man opened his mouth to speak, more people came in.

        "What's all this racket down here?" He said smiling just before he saw all the dead bodies on the ground. "My god, Jessica what happened?"

        "It's fine dad, just a few of them got in. Go back and rest now, we're fine." Jessica replied not taking her eyes off the man.

        "Rest?! I can't go back and rest. Look at what happened. And who is this?" He asked looking down at the man while walking towards Jessica.

        "It's fine dad I have it under control." Jessica said clearly trying to act calm.

        "Joe, I think that Jessica has this under control. Why don't you come with Faith and I up to the gun room." Dan said trying to calm things down. Faith didn't seem very happy, she wasnt very fond of Joe. As Joe started walking away from Jessica, she mouthed the words "thank you" to Dan. Just as Joe walked past him, he patted his shoulder and smilied back at Jessica. Once those three left base, Jessica asked again,

"So are you gonna tell me who you are now or not?" she asked looking back at the man. Chloe looked up at Ethan who was looking over at Kaitlyn. She patted him and gave her "upset look," which is what she did when she wanted to ask a question without saying it. He looked back at her for a second and smiled as he looked at the ground, then over to Jessica. Once he was sure that Chloe wasn't looking, he fixed his eyes back on Kaitlyn. Just as he did this, the man spoke.

        "My name is Josiah, and I woke up in this cave."
