Samantha's POV

I stood on the edge of the bridge, backpack on the floor beside me. I looked over the edge at the sharp drop to the rushing river underneath. I swallowed. I could do this. If I jumped then all my troubles would go away. That's all I wanted. I couldn't stay a rogue forever- I'm 14, I won't be able to support myself for long and I don't want to go to another pack. I'm scared that all packs are like my old one. I don't want to take that chance. One little step and I could end it all.

I thought I'd chosen a good place to contemplate because I thought that there wouldn''t be many cars coming by at this time. Evidently, I'm wrong. I hear a car door slam shut behind me and a sot voice call out from behind me

"Don't do it. Don't jump. I promise you, whatever bad has happened in your life so far isn't worth killing yourself over"

"How do you know! You have no idea who I am. Why should my life matter to you!" I shout at him, my back still facing him. A hand on my shoulder spins me round and I fall over, landing into two strong, muscular arms. I look up at the man and he looks to be in his late 30's. He carries me to his car, dumping me in the passenger seat and strapping me in. I'm too stunned to do anything else other than stare at him with shock. It's not till he starts driving away that I start to react again. Where the hell is he taking me?

"Where are you taking me?"

"Back to my house"

"WHAT?! IF YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN JUST KIDNAP ME AND THEN USE ME LIKE A TOY THEN YOU HAVE ANOTHER THING COMING! I AM NOT SOME SEX TOY THAT YOU CAN..." I scream at him. He just chuckles.

"First of all, I don't want to use you, you can't be more than 13 or 14 right? Second, I have a mate already and third, I'm just taking you home so you can get warm."

I feel myself relax. He has a mate so I should be...WAIT WHAT? MATE?! HE'S A FRICKIN WEREWOLF?!

"Yes I am" Oh, did I say that out loud? Crap.

"I'd ask how you know about us because you're human but I can smell them on you. Which leads me to the question of why were you hanging around werewolves?" He asks. I shift in my seat uncomfortably. What if he laughs at me like my old pack did. I don't want that to happen. But, he seems nice.

"I, er, I never shifted" I tell him honestly. I hang my head in shame. Crap. I really shouldn't have told him that. Now he'll probably...

"Wow. That's awful. Is that why you were gonna jump?" I can see real sadness in his eyes. That shocks me.

"Um, partly. But  I was gonna jump because my brother told me to go die. That was my main reason" I trail off awkwardly. The man slams the brakes on and I lurch forward in my seat.

"He what?! What sort of brother is he?! Who says that to his sister?! That bastard! What sort of life did you live there?!" Okay, he's kind of scaring me now. But I trust his rage, knowing that it means he's on my side. I tell him the rest of my story about the bullying and how I didn't want to live for much longer. His anger slowly turns to shock and then to sorrow. He picks up my hand and pats it sadly

"Don't worry, Sammi. You won't go back to that. I won't let you. But I won't let you die either. So you're gonna come and live with me and my mate and the rest of my pack, okay. I'll make sure no one ever hurts you again. Trust me." And I do. He means every word of what he says and I want to start again. My old pack will think I'm dead from the message I left them so what would be the harm.

"Okay" I say to him. He grins and starts the car up again

We pull up to his pack house and I'm hit by a thought.
