"It's not healthy to mope.""Fuck off, Paul." Instead he sat himself down right beside me on the beach.
"I know it completely sucks right now, but you're not going to feel any better with what you're doing."
"Says the one speaking from zero experience." He nodded his head.
"True, but that doesn't mean I don't know how to help a friend." I rolled my cheek against the tops of my knees to look at him. "There's a party tonight. Maybe it could help to take your mind off of certain things."
"Where is this party?"
"Cullen's." My head lifted off my legs as my eyebrows rose, crinkling the skin on my forehead.
"You're not allowed—"
"They made an exception because Bella invited Jacob and he doesn't want to go alone."
"And you're going? The one who in no circumstances can tolerate any member of that family?" He let out a heavy breath through his nose.
"I definitely wasn't planning on it, but I would be willing to if you do."
"Why?" I couldn't help, but be curious at his selfless behavior. We'd been close since we were little, but he has never done anything this remotely repulsive in his eyes for someone.
"I don't know. That's what people who love each other do."
"But that's not what you do, no matter how much you care." His eyes squinted and he pursed his lips.
"I don't like seeing you like this. At all. In all the years I've known you I've never seen you so...hopeless. So yeah, I'm going to do whatever needs to be done for you to feel somewhat better." My lips coiled into a smile as I leaned my body over to wrap my arms around his.
***********************"If the music sucks I'm out."
"Everyone to the Clearwater's for food if it all goes down hill?"
All of our heads nodded in agreement. We're really not optimistic people. The music playing was sending vibrations through the walls and stair railing. We all stood behind Jake when we reached the main floor of the party, following him when he got eye of Bella.
"What are you doing here?"
"You invited me remember?"
"Was my right hook too subtle for you? That was me uninviting you."
"Look, Bella, I'm sorry about...you know the kiss, your hand. I'd blame the whole inner animal thing, but it was really just me being an ass and I'm sorry." Paul quietly let out a gag beside me. "I brought you something. A graduation gift." Jacob held out a wooden wolf he had been carving for the past few days. "I made it myself."
