A week had passed, and everybody that mattered had noticed that Holly had gotten more distant. A frown on her face had become more apparent as she spent her time with Roxanne and Pandora. She found herself catching herself from calling her Pandora out loud.
"What exactly is your damned problem!?" Roxanne finally burst, and Pandora sighed. They were in the middle of a charms class.
Holly raised an eyebrow at Roxanne. "Absolutely nothing," she said, finding that she really had no problem, it was just a feeling inside her that was slowly making her resent everthing.
Roxanne glared at her, before jumping to her feet and pointed her wand at Holly, who stared back, unfazed.
"And what are you going to do?" Holly asked her, looking up at her with an expectant look on her face.
"I swear to God you're not the Holly I know," she hissed.
Holly shrugged. "That's because the Holly you know isn't the Holly you have before you," she said, and Pandora frowned.
"So you've had a personality change?" she asked Holly, frowning more deeply. "Well, it's not for the better, you know."
"You're going to get lines if you keep frowning like that," Holly said, somewhat bitchily, before turning away from them.
Holly pulled her wand out, and flicked it towards the cushions at the other end of the room, without a word, and the cushions flew across the room towards her, and she dismissed them, and they went back. She did it for a while, and Pandora and Roxanne eventually got back to their work, watching Holly as she ignored them both.
Pandora and Holly went to their next class, Pandora was chatting with Amelia Bones, while Holly dragged behind the rest of the Hufflepuffs.
She found Transfiguration a bit of a bore, and she would zone out, McGonagall would catch her out when she wasn't paying attention, but Holly knew what the answer was when she got the question repeated to her. She started to lightly hum to herself, Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson, while she was staring out in the rain outside, at the Forbidden Forest.
"Mist!" McGonagall snapped, making Holly turn and stop humming. "What is it that actually has your mind off the subject?"
Holly pointed out the window, where she was looking. "The thestrals," she replied, a hint of sadness in her tone, there were some out there, but what she was really thinking of was about the ghosts from there, that screamed to escape from there. It was really quite a terrifying experience for her at night, when the castle is quiet, and they sound much louder. "I'm sorry."
McGonagall gave her a softer look, getting the other meaning that she has seen somebody die before her, as did the rest of the class. Holly got off with only a warning by the end of the class. She had kept her eyes in front, not paying attention, but listening for a few words that indicated that they copy down what she had put on the blackboard.
Holly thought she would have to do something about the screaming of those ghosts, because she was starting to get insomnia, on top of everything else.
For the rest of the day, Holly had been distracted. Pandora and Roxanne had kept close, but they weren't near her, they wanted to keep an eye on her. Holly had known they were following her, but she didn't care, it's not like she was doing anything suspicious anyway, until Lily was sitting opposite her when she was in the library.
"Holly, you're starting to worry everybody, your friends, myself, and James," she told her, and Holly looked up, with a light expression of guilt on her face, but a coil of uncomfort entered her stomach at the expression, Holly grimanced.
Lily missed the guilty expression, and gave Holly an annoyed look. "You should be quite grateful of all this, Holly," she said, her voice matching her look. "But maybe, it's all getting to your head. You need to start treating Panda and Roxanne with respect again."
Another coil of uncomfort, worse than the last time, and Holly winced, putting her hands to her stomach, with another grimance. Holly stood, beckoned for Lily to follow, and walked to the bathroom. She leaned against the door, and put a sound-proof barrier on the walls of the bathroom, unwanting for Pandora and Roxanne hear her from outside.
"I am grateful," Holly said, and the feeling turned into a knot of pain, and she gripped her stomach more. "I really am, and I really have no id--" a large gasp left her mouth instead of the rest of the word, and she leaned against the door, wincing at the pain. It was as if somebody had punched her in the stomach. Holly's eyes widened as Lily started to disappear, but she clearly didn't want to go. The candals in the bathroom started to flicker, and she slid down the door.
What on earth was happening?
A angry looking male's form appeared in front of her, and it rage was emitting from him. He had come for her.
"You thought you could escape from me, did you?" he hissed at her, and she wimpered.
A thought occured to her. Her step-father had died, and now he was back to haunt her. He had somehow managed to cut her cheek, and up her arms.
She lashed out violently, but nothing was helping her. Because of her certain powers, she could see everything, but it was still dark. Holly wrapped a shadow around her wand and herself, and shadow-walked. She, and her wand, materialized outside.
Holly's eyes were shut, and she was crying. She heard footsteps, and she immediately started to scramble away, blinded by the tears and the pain all up her arms and right cheek.
"Holly!" a female's voice yelled, it sounded familiar. "Holly, are you okay!? What happened?"
The voice started to drift away. Something clicked inside her brain. He wasn't a muggle, she couldn't see muggle ghosts. So what was he exactly?
