When Maddox woke the next day he was covered in a fluffy white blanket with a large pillow under his head, his drool running off of the blue fabric, he slowly sat up rubbing at his eyes before he gave a soft yawn, he wondered why he hadn't been awoken but when he looked around he realized that he was no longer behind bars, he was sitting in Ted's living room where he had spent his first free night.
He looked around to try and find a clock but the room was bare and he had no watch or phone to use, so with a sigh he stood up and made his way to the bathroom, he took a piss and flushed the toilet before pulling his toothbrush out of his bag and brushing his teeth quickly, he looked through his bag and couldn't find his clothes so went back to wait on Ted to tell him where it was, there was no way he was intruding further into the man's home.
Soon after he heard tiny footsteps coming down the stairs and shifted back in the couch when he saw the little girl peeping at him from around the corner, he watched as she disappeared and could hear tiny footsteps moving up the stairs, he listened as she moved around before coming back down the stairs, she came into the living room carrying his clothes and handed them over to him with a smile before going back upstairs.
He looked at the towel she had also handed to him and quickly got up to go to the bathroom, he took a quick shower and changed into his now clean clothes, he sat back in the couch when he was finished and decided to fold up the blanket and set the pillow on it and then shifted every so often as he waited on Ted to wake up.
He would leave on his home but he didn't exactly know how to get to the warehouse on his own, he had only accidentally stumbled on it yesterday, his luck was a fickle thing so he wouldn't push it when he could just ask. It was a long time before he heard heavy footsteps and then Ted came into the living room and looked a bit surprised to see him sitting there.
"You look ready, lets go and get something to eat okay?" Maddox nodded and grabbed up his things before following the man out the house after pulling on his converse, he had glanced back to see the little girl running out the living room with the towel and clothes he had left behind, she reminded him so much of...
He had shook his head to brush away the thought, it didn't matter now none of them did, Ted drove to a nearby cafe and lead him inside going to a corner booth, they sat down and Ted handed him a menu that was sitting in the corner of the booth "take a look there, they have a lot of good breakfast options, I noticed you didn't eat last night, so you could get the breakfast special, it's a stack of four fluffy pancakes with cream and syrup, you also get two sunny side up eggs and a large portion of bacon and you can have juice, coffee or tea if you want."
Maddox listened to what the older man had to say and found himself salivating at the thought of eating pancakes again, he hadn't eaten them in ages and he missed the fluffiness and the rich taste of the syrup, he had eggs and bacon once in a while in prison but never sunny side up and they always tasted weird so he would avoid them and the bacon was always dry, prison food might have been better than his high school lunches but they still had a long way to go.
He wasn't much for coffee, he hadn't drank it in a while but wouldn't say he missed it, so he order the special and a big jug of cranberry juice, he ate down everything taking his time to savor it only speeding up when he realized Ted had been staring at him and felt uncomfortable.
When they were finished he was lead out the cafe and followed the man back to his car, when they got in the man took him to a news stand and bought a papers for him and told him, that he could look through it to find apartment listings and when he was finished just he could ask anyone for directions to the warehouse and they could easily direct them, with that Ted was off and he was left on his own.
He sat down on the nearest bench and ran through the listings, even with the money he was getting he didn't think he could afford a apartment by himself, that might just make money tight so he opted for a shared apartment and he had lived with several different room mates over the years so it wouldn't be hard for him to adjust.
He found one that seemed okay and followed the street signs until he stumbled up on the street and stopped in front of a two story white house, he checked the picture on the front and went to open the door stopping when he heard loud barking, he looked to see a very big male Rottweiler ran to the gate and jumped up snapping at his hands that he quickly pulled back.
He stepped back and moved to walk away but stopped when someone called out to him, he turned to see a skinny kid with shoulder length blond hair and big glasses walking over to the gate, he watched as the boy through a treat to the dog who ran back around the house, before the kid looked up at him "I trust you're here about the add for the shared space."
Maddox nodded and the kid stepped back opening the gate "The names Mathew Rodner, come on in and take a look around." he followed the kid that whistled and watched as the dog trotted to his side and walked with him into the house, they got in the house and the kid locked in the door before turning to him "alright follow me." he nodded and the kid led him through the house.
"Alright so it's a two story, obviously, upstairs there's two bedrooms, a bathroom a storage are and a wash area, me and my brother stay upstairs, so unless you need to do laundry it's not expected you'll be up there, also ask before you go up those stairs or I'll sick Galaxy on you and you're not going to like it."
"Alright so as for downstairs, we have the living space, it's fairly large we have a TV and sitting area, you can find a DVD player movies and whatever else in there, across the hall is the kitchen, it has a lot of stuff in it, just like the living room use it anytime you like just leave it as you find it." Maddox nodded and followed the boy down the hall "alright so back here is a bedroom the one we're renting out, it's a reasonable size but you'll have to furnish it yourself, sorry if it's not what you were expecting.
"Across from it is the guest bathroom it's about three quarters the size of your room, it has a shower, tub, toilet, sink and counter space, in the bottom is where we keep the cleaning supplies, oh this tiny door hear you can find brooms and the like." Maddox nodded again and followed the boy as he lead him into the kitchen and out a door "alright so this is the yard space, just walk down the path and there you have it, a swing set and a sitting area and of course Galaxy's pen and sand box, he's a baby so I spoil him."
"Okay follow me and lets discuss the finer details" Maddox followed the kid in back to the living room where he sat on a couch across from him and picked up a clip board "alright so the rent is five hundred a month and all utilities are there for you to use as you like, just try not to over do it, oh we've got Wifi, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime and a lot of other prime sites which you can have access to.
"Oh my Brother Alistair works a lot and he's also going to the local college so he would mostly be home late in the night or at random ass times but he won't spend much time out of his room, I'm going to the high school nearby so I'm gone like seven in the morning and don't come in until like seven because I got to after classes, there's a girl that comes in during the day to check on Galaxy so you don't have to worry about him disturbing you. Oh and I cook and clean so all you have to worry about is your mess... that should be all of it, so tell me about you."
