One Month Earlier
He couldn't be any more relieved when he arrived at the door of the pyramid-shaped ship. The sun of the alien moon was beating down on him for hours; he thought he was never going to make it. He knocked several times on the metal door until it finally opened, revealing a tall, middle-aged-looking woman in a gray jumpsuit.
"You're late," she said, annoyed.
"I would of gotten here a lot faster if my ship hadn't broken down mid-flight," the man responded. "I had to land it somewhere."
The woman shook her head and led the man inside. "You told me a long time ago you were going to get that ship fixed."
"Well, I was, but I got busy."
The woman scoffed, "That's your pathetic excuse for everything."
They both walked along the sleek, metallic corridors for several minutes, until they had reached a wide door. Beside the door was a keypad. '953', she typed in to unlock it. Immediately as she typed the password, the wide door opened up, revealing a dimmly-lit laboratory.
"This is where I do all my experiments," she said as she showed the man around. It was a grotesque sight to see. All around the whole laboratory were jars and jars, filled with failed experiments. The woman was a biochemical engineer. Her daily job consisted of studying the chemical make-up of every specimen she encountered in her travels. After her studies were done, she'd take out the DNA of whatever specimen she worked on, fuse it together with another specimen, and create a new creature out of it. Never once did she succeed, but she kept them as a reminder to not give up on her goal.
The man looked at his surroundings with utter disgust. "This probably wasn't a good idea. Maybe you're not ideal for this job."
She then stopped and turned around. "And what makes you think that, Master?" she asked.
"Look at this place, Rani! This whole room is dedicated with all your failures! It looks like never once in your career you managed to create at least one living specimen that has been able to survive for more than an hour."
She began to turn red because she knew he was right.
The Master continued, "But, that is why I'm here. I'm going to help you out."
"You?" she scoffed. "What do you know about biochemical engineering?"
He grinned, "Quite a bit, actually. I had taken several courses in biochemistry while we were still in the Academy, back in Gallifrey. It wasn't my favorite subject, but it was easy. I mean, I could try doing it myself, but you have many of the needed resources to make this happen."
The Rani shook her head and turned away from the Master. "This is madness," she said after a moment of silence. "Your plan is from the mind of a complete madman."
He sighed. "Rani, if this plan works, we will be able to rid of our enemy for good. Imagine it, we can rulers of a new and redeemed planet..."
She thought about it more. "Ruler, you say?"
"Yes, rulers. You and I, King and Queen."
After saying that, the Master had cringed at the thought of ruling beside the Rani. He couldn't stand the woman for even a moment. Ruling with her would probably be a death-sentence to his degenerating sanity. Still, he was left with no choice. She was obviously a failure, but she was the only person he knew who had any hands-on experience with that sort of thing. He wasn't kidding when he said that he would help her out.
She turned to around to face him, and this time, she was pleased. "Well, I guess you got yourself a partner. So when do we start?"
The Master pulled out a small device from his pocket and set it on the table next to them. With a push of a button, the device revealed what looked like a hologram of a blueprint.
"I have one of those," the Rani said, as she pointed to a square in on of the corners of the hologram.
"I know you do, but we're going to need a bigger one and many more if we're going to make this work."
The Rani agreed but then asked, "So where exactly are we going to get the people to build the machines for us? We both can build a prototype, but we need to be able to give them the instructions so they can be able to build the rest of them themselves.
"You don't need to worry about that, my dear Rani," he replied with a evilish smile. "You leave that to me. I know where to find them and I know just the place...."
