‟ I HOPE HECTOR KILLS YOU! „
♛
Achilles being completely immortal apart from his heel was just a myth. It wasn't really a part of his story. He was a man, a half mortal man. Sure, he was the best warrior of his time. He was swift and fast and could throw a spear from a ship and kill a guy on land. But he wasn't invincible.
Achilles had a weak spot.
Patroclus.
Patroclus was a man. A man whom Achilles loved. He was half his soul. But then Patroclus was killed by a Trojan warrior named Hector who was helped by Apollo. Hector took his spear and stabbed the poor boy in the chest, twisting it around until he was dead. Achilles was more then heartbroken when Patroclus' body was brought back. After his beloved died, he completely fell apart.
When the golden haired demigod saw the body of Patroclus, he held him in his arms and sobbed. The only phrase that left his lips was "Patroclus" but that didn't bring him back. Patroclus, Patroclus, Patroclus. Over and over until it was nothing more then a sound. And then Achilles took the body back to his tent and laid it in his bed where he kept it for weeks.
Patroclus was dead but Achilles couldn't let him go. He couldn't spend a night without the young man by his side.
Achilles stopped eating after that. He starved himself. Not even his mother could get him to eat. He was so very hungry but he refused to put any food in his mouth. And Achilles cried. He cried oh so much. He cried until it hurt and he had no more tears to shed. One night he had a nightmare. He woke up and shook the body besides him. When Patroclus didn't wake up, he cried again.
Achilles murdered Hector after that. He was like a lion, tearing apart his prey. Though he had somewhat been hoping that Hector would kill him first so he no longer had to live without his lover, his beloved. Once Hector was dead, he tied his body to a chariot and dragged him along outside the Gates of Troy to mock and anger the Trojans. He did this almost every day. Hector didn't deserve to have his soul freed from his dead body which trapped it him there on the Earth. Not after what he did.
Achilles did give the body back eventually though so Hector's soul could be at rest. But he only did it for Hector's family, not the man who he hated. After that he took Patroclus to the pyre and burned him. He felt bad for keeping the boys soul on the Earth. He held up the golden urn with the boys ashes and said to the people watching, "When I die, mingle our ashes together."
Achilles was killed by Paris who shot him with an arrow. And when he was shot, Achilles turned so he could watch the arrow piercing his chest and tearing his muscle. And he smiled as crimson gushed from his wound. He was happy to die so he could be reunited with the man he loved most.
Patroclus was Achilles' heel and once he was was gone, it was only a matter of time before Achilles was too.
