"Ashton, I would appreciate being able to use the bathroom within the next century," was all I heard as a repetitive banging sound echoed through mine and my sisters shared bathroom.
I wrenched the door open, and almost cried due to how hard I was laughing at the site I was greeted with. My stepsister Cassandra, aka Cassie, stood dancing as she tried to shuffle past me. It wasn't going very well, but she was trying.
"What are you doing?" I asked as I stood in the hallway with my bathrobe on.
She replied, "I've had to pee for like an hour, but you've been in there since I woke up." She finally made it, and slammed the door in my face. I strolled down the hallway to my bedroom to get ready for the day.
Speaking of the day, I had never been more excited! My mom and stepdad were letting Cassie and I spend the rest of the month at the beach house. It was quite shocking, since I was only 16, and Cass was 14. Sure, we were always responsible, but this was pretty extreme. I was driving us down today, and then it was a parent free getaway. We had never had been given a chance this big. It was either going to make or break us.
When we were finally ready, we put our luggage into the trunk of my convertible, and began our road trip. The beach house was only about three hours away, so it wasn't a bad drive. The worst part was traffic on the high way, since we hit the lunch rush hour. Cassie played some pretty good music, but I may have been biased since we liked the same things pretty much all of the time.
For not being related, we were more like sisters than the actual blood related ones we knew. See, my parents had been divorced for as long as I could remember. Cassie's mom died in a car crash, and our parents met due to both of us being in the same ballet class. Cassie and I hit it off immediately even though I was a little over a year and a half older than her. From the stories, I took her under my wing when she cried for her dad. Our parents began dating, and only got married after both of us gave verbal agreement. My dad and I don't have a relationship, so when Phil and my mom got married, I finally got the dad I always wanted.
Cassie and I had both danced, done gymnastics, played field hockey, took instrumental lessons, played soccer, and done anything imaginable. We loved the same bands, played the same sports, and stalked the same celebrities. The only thing different were our looks and our clothing styles. I dressed in a bohemian/indie style, while Cassie went for a more casual alternative look. Cassie had dark brown eyes and dark brown hair, while I had auburn hair and blue eyes.
Soon enough, we were approaching the beach house. It was so exciting, and I could tell Cassie felt it too. To have so much freedom and trust put into us by our parents made my feel incredible. We worked so hard during the school year to maintain our above average GPAs, and a break was well deserved. I'm pretty sure the 'rents knew that too.
As we got all of our stuff in the beach house, we both could tell that this was going to be the summer of a lifetime.
