I rushed into Undertaker's parlor. "Undertaker! Jane!" I shouted.
A giggle sounded from a coffin as Undertaker crept out. "And what brings a beauty such as yourself into my humble abode?" he asked.
"I live here too!" I cried. "Please tell me this is some joke or a weird dream to test me or something."
Undertaker tilted his head, never once dropping the grin on his face.
"You don't know me?" I muttered, reading his confused aura.
"I'm sorry, dearie, have we met before? I can't recall who you are," he told me.
My eyes watered. "How do you not know me? This is insane." Needing to clear my head, I rushed out the parlor and wandered the streets that I once lived, outcasted and homeless.
|time skip|
I couldn't remember how long I walked for, but I decided that it wouldn't do me much good. I did have some time to try and organize my thoughts though. Heading back to the funeral parlor, I concluded that I'm in a different world, like an alternate universe or something.
"Undertaker?" I called, opening the door. I walked inside, letting the door close slowly behind me.
"Back again?" his voice came, oddly not from inside his usual coffin.
"I-I think, maybe, I'm in an alternate world," I said carefully.
The mortician stopped and turned to face me, smiling in amusement and curiosity. "Alternate world? How interesting."
"Well, yes, and since I'm from some alternate world, where I'm from, you're married." I debated whether to tell him if I was his wife.
"Married? Who's the lucky one?" he asked, voice carrying humor.
I hesitated. "Me."
There was a minute of silence. Two minutes. Then Undertaker bursted out laughing.
I crossed my arms, pouting. "What's so funny?" I asked indignantly.
"I-I just can't believe it. Me? Married to you in an alternate universe?" He toned down to a giggle. "That's rich!"
"Are you saying I'm unworthy to be your wife? What if I tell you that I have a special ability?" I added.
"Oh? And what would that be?"
I huffed. "Not gonna tell you. After the way you treated me, why should I tell you?"
"Because, according to you, I'm your husband," he replied. "Alternate world or not, I am still at least a version of who you know."
I glared at him. He had a point.
Undertaker suddenly started. "I almost forgot! I better get going, lest I be late."
"Late for what?" I asked curiously.
"No time to explain, dearie. Come on, then. I'm sure I can get you on with me. Besides, you fascinate me. It doesn't seem like you're all human."
I furrowed my brows. "Wait, what's happening? Where are we--"
He cut me off by grabbing my wrist and dragging me out of the shop in a hurry. I gave a yelp as I was taken off toward what looked to be the docks. Oh God, what have I gotten myself into now? I thought nervously.
