Green.

It's the color of the new leaves,
The smell of the fresh air,
The sound of the quiet music,
The taste of the tart apples.
The color of excitement.
The color of summer.

It's the color of those glittering eyes,
Round and full of excitement,
Like nothing I've ever seen before.
They made me want to be the best,
The strongest,
The bravest,
The smartest.
Just something about those green eyes.

It's the color of that one feeling,
That pumps through my heart.
What is it?
Excitement?
Curiosity?
For the owner of the big green eyes.

It's the color of confidence,
Fed from curiosity,
And excitement,
That makes me go,
Up to those green eyes,
And ask her.

It's the color of a first date,
And the nervousness that comes with it.
Its the color of a blinking neon sign,
"OPEN",
"PEN",
"EN",
"N",
"EN",
"PEN",
"OPEN".
The color of lettuce on a burger,
And the pickles that I steal from her,
And the excitement of just being there.
Our curiosity for each other.

Its the color of the lively grass,
And a  favorite tee-shirt.
It's the color of a cyclist's hilarious spandex.
And the color of bags,
Full of shiny caramel-corn.
It's the color of the bills exchanged for the treat.
It's the color of that gorgeous laugh,
That she hates,
But I love.

It's the color of those clovers and glittery top hats,
And the ridiculously cheep beers.
It's the color of mischief in her eyes as she orders two,
And then two more,
And then two more,
And then two more.
It's the color of the flashing lights,
As she pulls me out,
Onto a crowded dance floor.

It's the color of their warbling voices,
As they lean against each other,
And walk home.
It's the color of a drunken giggle,
As I fumble for the keys.
It's the color of the slammed door,
And shuffling footsteps,
Into my bedroom.
It's the color of my T-shirt that she pulls on backwards,
And the color of a plush bedspread,
And mumbled 'Good night's.
It's the color of her soft snores,
As I lay and watch her sleeping,
So peacefully,
So unguarded,
So beautifully.
And I can't take my eyes off of her.
It's the color of the beautiful realization,
That I am completely in love with her.

It's the color of the hate,
That he yells at us.
Some fat, ugly man who has never known true love.
It's the color of these insults,
"You'll end up in hell!"
"People like you deserve to die,
You dykes!"
It's the color of my racing thoughts.
Why does this man think that this is acceptable?
Because of his heterosexism.
Is it because he thinks women are weak?
Because women are powerful.
Is it because he thinks our love is a sin?
Because love is not.

It's the color of a year's passing,
The color of the new leaves,
The smell of the fresh air,
The sound of the quiet music,
The taste of the tart apples.
The color of excitement.
The color of summer.
The color of her excited eyes,
And the color of my dress.
It's the color of the fancy wine garden,
And the quiet chatting.
It's the color if the many bushes,
And the dancing fire flies.
It's the color of the grass that she kneels in,
And the little velvet box that she pulls out.
It's the color of a loving speech,
Full of flattering words and beautiful memories.
And it's the color of that one final question.
"Will you marry me?"

It's the color of the streamers,
That swing lazily in the air.
It's the color of the plush pillow,
That our two rings rest on.
It's the color of the love that fills the air,
And the sweet smell of Spring.
It's the color of her eyes,
And the happy tears that threaten to spill.
It's the color of our vows
And it's the color of their cheers,
And it's the color of our laughter,
As we race down the isle,
To our new lives,
As Mrs. And Mrs.

And years later,
Its the color of a blanket,
Wrapped around a little sleepy baby.
And the color of a little stuffed bear.
And the color of excitement,
For the little baby boy,
With those amazing,
Beautiful,
Curious,
Glittering,
Sleepy green eyes.
