•I lay in the dark, looking at the ceiling. I then looked back at Justin and smiled. He looked like an angel while he slept. He had goose bumps all over his muscular arms. He lay next to me, one arm around me, as I continued using his jacket as a blanket. I turned my head, snuggling my face in Justin's chest. Hearing his heartbeat gave me comfort.

"You really think he cares about you?" I heard a cynical voice say. It was Bryce's. Suddenly I was on my feet, Bryce looking at me. He was standing to my right, about six feet away from me. I didn't move my gaze from Justin as I swallowed hard. But then the darkness began closing in. Justin's body seemed to be farther and farther away from me. I took a step toward him, when Bryce grabbed my arm. "He'll never love you. I didn't. No one will. You're just a pathetic bitch. That's all you'll ever be."

His cold, intense stare sent shivers up my back. I could almost feel a bruise forming around my wrist. I didn't want this to happen again. Only a few times had he hurt me physically. Now, he was abusing me verbally as always. "Stop," I whispered.

He grabbed my chin fiercely, making me look at him. "You know I'm right, you damn bitch! You ruined my life. Everything's always about you, isn't it? All you do is start pointless drama for attention."

"Bryce, please-"

"You know it's true. You're truly pathetic if you think you'll ever end up with someone like him. You're just a wasted piece of trash. Why don't you just go slit your ugly wrist?"

"Just leave me alone!" I cried. I wanted Justin to wake up, take me into his arms, save me from Bryce. This monster.

Bryce grabbed me, gripping my throat so tightly that I was gasping for air. "Shut up!"

I choked. I couldn't breathe. I put my hands on top of his to try to pull them away. But it was no use. He was too much stronger than I was. "Please...s-stop," I pleaded.

"Why? No one needs you! Nobody cares about you! They never will! Everyone would be better off without you. You'll always just be the same pile of shit that ruins everyone's lives. You ruined EVERYTHING!"•

"Diana!" Justin cried, shaking me awake.

It was only a dream. I must've screamed and woken Justin up.

I was shaking violently and crying hard, but Justin held me tightly.

"Shhh, it's okay, it's okay," he whispered as he gently stroked my hair. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. I'm right here." I tried to calm down and get my breathing under control. "It's okay; you're okay," Justin whispered. "You're okay. I got you."

"Please don't let go," I sobbed in a pathetic voice.

"Don't worry; I'm here."

"D-D-Don't... l-leave me," I choked out.

"Wouldn't dream of it."

His arms restrained me, forcing my body to keep still. He just held me.

After a few minutes I calmed down. Justin shushed me and planted a light kiss on my temple, sending a shockwave throughout my body. I had been freezing, but now I just felt warm. I carefully laid my head on his chest. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all.

He made me feel safe. For a moment, that nightmare, everything with Bryce just didn't matter. Justin was there. He didn't let me go. He cared. He was right there. Right here, right now... Somehow, everything was okay.

Justin looked at me. His thumb caressed my cheek, wiping away the tears. His deep brown eyes intensely, passionately stared into mine. I felt my stomach flop.
