Part 1.5

I never saw the night going the way it had gone. If my sister had asked me before I met my mate: How do you think it will end up? The situation I was in would nowhere be in my mind; especially the part where Magnolia had gotten knocked out. If I had thought for a second she would have gotten hurt, then I would not have brought her along in the first place.

Biting my bottom lip, I realized how stupid I was. The whole ordeal we were in, by even coming to Cedar Falls, was a risk. I would have been the first to admit undermined the danger we were putting ourselves in.

It had been a late realization but it dawned on me that we were dealing with something that I could only read so much about. I did not have all the information but the fact was there was no way I was going to get answers without a certain level of risk. As they say, there is no reward without a risk being involved.

The sound of Ares and Clifton whispering between each other made me jump out of my train of thought. My eyes shifted over to Ares as he leaned his head in towards Clifton's right ear and spoke in a hushed tone of voice. When Ares was done speaking, Clifton smiled and looked as if he was trying to hold back a floodgate of drunken laughter. Clifton was weak, however, he could not stop himself from filling the room with a deep series of laughs.

My eyes flickered over to Braxton as he turned his neck so that he facing Ares and Clifton. I could not see the expression Braxton had given the two, aside from the fact that he rose an eyebrow and gave a pointed look of some sort. Whatever he did, it had worked. Ares and Clifton stood up straight; acting as if they had not just previous engaged in a secret conversation.

"Something you'd like to share, Ares?" Braxton inquired.

Ares shook his head, "No, Brax, we were just messing around." Ares' posture relaxed and he gave off a friendly smile.

Clifton, on the other hand, kept a straight posture. "Sir, what are we going to do with the girls? Ares and I can escort them out of Cedar Falls."

"Or, we could kill them," Ares announced.

I gulped at the sound of his idea.

"Kidding, kidding," Ares stated when he was met by silence to his idea.

A gut-wrenching sensation cascaded over me as I realized that in some stories there were evil packs and malicious mates. A fear came over me that I could have placed Magnolia and I right smack dab in the middle of that exact scenario.

The moment I thought I was going to hyperventilate, I locked eyes with Braxton. Immediately, a warming sensation began in my toes; eventually spreading throughout my whole body. The feeling brought a sense of tranquility, making me feel calmer by the second. After what seemed like a few moments, it felt as if I was completely safe.

"Clifton. Ares. You can leave, now." The commanding tone of Braxton's voice was clear in getting the message across that he was not looking for an argument.

Clifton and Ares did not seem to want to put on up a fight as they hastily exited the room without uttering a word.

Braxton's unwavering dark eyes did not leave me as I found myself pushing back the inner happiness bubbling inside of me, at the fact that I had finally found my mate. Somehow, I managed to focus solely on the other emotion coursing through my veins: anger.

I was so outraged that Braxton had the audacity to order Clifton to knock out my sister, Magnolia. I could never stand to see anyone abused, let alone my family.
