"Sorry, it's just. I'm too scared to go up alone."
"Go up...?"
"My room's at the top of the house."
"Right, do you want me to walk up with you, Jasper?" You rubbed his hair.
"Yes, please, sir."
"Right." You took his hand and stood up. The staircase was rickety and old, portraits of families hung all over the wall. You stopped when you saw the portrait of your girlfriend's family. She was smaller, but still beautiful. She sat in the chair you had seen in the hallway. The mother and father's hands were on her shoulder. They all were smiling. They walked further up the stairs when the boy started talking.
"Sir."
"Yes, Jasper."
"Do you want to know why it scares me."
"Why?" You said as you passed another portrait. There was Jasper on the chair with three adults and two teens surrounding him, none of them were smiling.
