Chapter 4

Recap- Ruhi makes sameer an offer he can't refuse n demands to see Kria.

Sameer led Ruhi into a room which was well decorated than the rest of the house. She saw a girl sitting on the bed with chains restraining her body. Her hair were unkempt, clothes were shabby n she had various bruises n marks on her arms n legs. Her face was pale n void of any emotion, her eyes red because of crying. Observing her further, she hardly resembled the one she saw in the picture.
Ruhi went closer n sat across her on the bed, calling out her name softly, "Kria.." She turned her face to see a girl sitting on the bed, she had been so consumed by her thoughts she didn't even realise when someone entered the room.
All Kria did was to stare at Ruhi, as she could make out some confusion n curiosity in her eyes. "I'm Ruhi Singha.." she stopped midway, realizing it won't be a good idea revealing her identity to Kria just yet. She needs to gain her confidence first before sharing about the real deal. So she decided to stick to Singh instead. "I'm Ruhi Singh.." she repeated with a small smile n confidence this time.
Kria continued to stay silent, not knowing why was she here n how did that monster allow her in. "I know u are probably wondering why am I here.. I, uhh, got to know from a friend that u are a victim of domestic violence n abuse, being tortured by that drunkard, so I've come to help. I faked my identity to him to get to u.. I know of an NGO that helps women, victims of abuse or violence, I'll take u there.. they'll help u come out of this.." Ruhi managed to cook up a story, but she definitely wanted to help her. She hoped Kria would buy her story, so that she would confide in her.
Kria remained mum for a while as though contemplating something, so Ruhi tried to strike a conversation with her again, "look Kria.."
"Why do u want to help me?" She asked in a low voice interrupting her. "Because anti-social elements like these are a threat to their family n friends, also the society in general.. so, I want to help u n the society by getting him behind the bars, so that he can never harm anyone again.." she said in a reassuring tone.
Kria looked convinced n her sad eyes held a glint of hope to be free. "I will report this to the NGO n someone will come to rescue u from this monster.." Ruhi said the last part in a disgusted tone. Though, she had to make-up this story to win Kria's trust n faith in her, one thing she was sure of is that she would not let this rascal get away after what he has done. He will be punished for all his offenses n the torments he inflicted on Kria.
"Kria, I need u to tell me about your past before I can proceed with a plan of action.." Ruhi asked Kria, wanting the answer to it for so long. She did get information from Neha but not the proper details which only Kria could reveal cause Rey has totally shut off his past n refuses to talk or discuss about it with her.
Kria seemed hesitant, hinting that she wasn't willing to share the details of her life with a stranger, even if it was to help her. Ruhi understood her reluctance n rephrased her question, "uhh, I mean about your marriage.. why did u marry this man? Was it love or.." she purposely left her sentence incomplete waiting for Kria to answer. "I was married against my will.." she said in a hoarse voice. "He deceived my mother. Making her believe that I was in wrong company n won over her trust, proposing his love for me. He promised her to keep me happy forever n could do anything for me, making her think that he was the right person for me. My mother believed all fake promises he made to her n trusted him with her daughter's well-being.." her voice cracked at the end. Ruhi hugged her to comfort her n when she calmed down, she urged Kria to continue. "This happened towards the mid semester of my third year college n he wanted to get married as soon as possible, so that he could lay his dirty hands on me. He convinced my mother for it which also appealed to her since there were hardly few months for me to finish college, but I didn't want to marry, certainly not him.. I wanted to make my career, earn for my mom.. she had worked all her life to provide me with everything. I wanted to take her responsibility so that she could retire.. although, like every mother in the world, she wanted to see me happy n settled down in life, her concern doubled because she was a single mother, but if only she knew where my happiness was.." Kria expressed in her strained voice.
Ruhi now understood n connected the dots together, Kria got married during the third year of college, meaning her break-up with Rey happened then.. which explains why Rey quit dance n shut himself off. She also realized that throughout the conversation never did she once mention Rey, so she thought of asking Kria. "U are very brave to have survived, with this monster in this cage for so long.. I want to n will help u at all costs.." Kria just looked at her, her face void of any emotions. "If u don't mind, can I ask u something else?" To which she nodded slightly. "Was there someone in your life before he forcefully.. I mean someone u liked.." she struggled to complete her sentence. "How does it matter?! I'm sure he must have long forgotten me, possibly married n settled down with a girl who loves him n deserves him.." Kria sighed longingly.
"Do u still have feelings for him?" Ruhi wanted to know what was in heart. Kria was silent for a moment before replying, "I don't think it matters now.." dismissing Ruhi's question. Ruhi decided to not stretch the topic anymore, although she didn't admit to her, her face gave away the fact that a part of her still missed him n yearned for his love.
"I uhh.. understand, I didn't mean to be nosy. I have all the required information as of now, I'll get u rescued at the earliest, don't worry, just one more night in this dreadful cage n tomorrow u will be free.. I will have to go now, however I'll ensure that the drunkard monster stays away from u n will not harass or harm u.." she said in a calm n reassuring tone. She embraced her once again, "u are a fighter!" she whispered before parting.
"Thank u.." Kria said meekly. "Please don't thank me, our aim is to reach out to every woman whose a victim of her husband's ill deeds.." she smiled genuinely n Kria returned the gesture. She could only feel gratitude for this stranger who was an angel in disguise for her. Kria watched her leave, but her dead heart had a glint of hope for freedom now n everything being alright with tomorrow's sunrise which will finally cast its light into her world full of darkness.

Ruhi came out of the room n walked towards sameer, he looked from his phone. "The deal is on n I'll be taking her with me tomorrow.. I will get an agreement made, that u have to sign so I suggest u be sober for that n along with that, u will also get the first half of the payment.. but I have a condition, if I learn that u tried to force or molest Kria, the deal will be off, so u better not hurt or harm her in your drunken state else u will lose out on this precious deal n also the money that comes along with it.. I hope I have made my point clear to u.." she spoke in an authoritative tone n he nodded, "I will stay away from her.."
As of now, all he could think about was the money he would be getting from this deal without having to even a move a finger n he was more than pleased about this offer. So, he decided not to ruin this opportunity with his stupidity. He opened the door for Ruhi n saw her walking up to her car, he had definitely hit the jackpot!

As Ruhi sat inside the car, taking her place at the driver's seat, Neha bombarded her with non-stop questions. "What happened inside that took so long? Did u see Kria? Talked to her? What did she say? How is she? Did u manage to convince sameer? Did he see me? Did he doubt your actions? I hope not, please say something its killing me here!" Ruhi glared at her making her shut up. "The answer to all your questions is I didn't meet Kria." Ruhi lied to Neha.
If she would tell Neha the truth, she would insist on seeing Kria which isn't a good idea because she had faked her identity to Kria, which will mess up everything for her. "Has sameer done something to her? Will I ever be able to see her again?" Neha asked in a glum voice, realizing she may have lost her best friend forever. Ruhi instantly regretted lying to her. Neha's eyes became teary, 'not a very good idea after all!' Ruhi thought as she looked at her, so she decided to tell her the truth.
"Before u presume anything, just hear me out okay?" She said to Neha as her brows knitted in confusion but she nodded nonetheless. Ruhi told her about everything that happened inside. "So why did u lie to me?" Neha asked in more of a hurt tone than an accusing one. "Because I thought u might insist on meeting her n as of now she is not aware of my identity n my relation with Rey.. so, I thought if I'd lie to u, it'll be.. guess, I was just acting stupid! But please Neha, u can't see her now.. I cannot risk letting her know about me just yet.." Ruhi pleaded.
"I understand Ruhi, u have to give me some credit too. I know why u are doing this n I would never think of ruining it because of my eagerness to see my friend, in fact, it'll be better if I don't ever see her, I have let her down.." Neha said, her tears finally making way now. Ruhi stroked her back to comfort her, "don't blame yourself, the circumstances were such that no one had seen it coming.. I'm sure Kria would say the same thing.."
Although Ruhi was right, she still was not ready to face Kria because of her guilt, believing that whatever Kria had to go through could have been averted had she done something about it. Her thoughts were interrupted as she heard Ruhi's voice talking to someone on the phone. "Yes, I need this to be done urgently, I will text u the details. I will come n collect it myself.. make sure this agreement stays confidential, only between us, not even Rey should know about this.. just give me a call as soon as u are done." Neha heard her one sided conversation, waiting for Ruhi to spill the beans. "I was talking to my lawyer.. just making sure that there is no possibility of any loopholes in our plan.." Ruhi winked smirking, making Neha smile too.
"Thanks Ruhi.."
"For what? The free car ride.." she laughed on her own silly joke. "For having such a big heart n helping Kria. What you're doing is not easy n I can't even imagine myself in your place.."
"Then don't Neha, cause it hurts to be here n I wish no one would ever be in my place.." Ruhi grimaced then added, "but hey, I should really pat my back, though, managed to do so much in less than 2 days.." Ruhi boasted as Neha agreed. Then, they set off to Neha's house to make further arrangements.

A/N: I'm sorry for not updating this story for months. I was really pissed off because my phone decided to hang up on me without me being able to save the part of the story I had typed n then I was caught up with college. I had decided to put this story on hold, well technically it was but nonetheless 🙈
I felt bad for bailing out on the readers expecting an update n finally sat down to start writing. Sorry again, I'm writing the next chapter too so mostly by tomorrow that should be up too.
