"Malik!" Mariam gasps. The person that was behind her quickly walked past her without glancing her way. "Oh."

"Mariam? What happened? Did they hurt you? Talk to me!" Malik said worry in his voice.

"Oh malik, i was just paranoid. The man walked past me. I think I'm starting to be afraid of my safety more from hate crimes because of this niqab. What do i do?"

"Mariam you scared me. I'm almost near your home. We will talk when i see you. I'm glad you're safe."

Mariam reaches her home and sees Malik leaning against the front porch. When he notices her he gives her a hug. They were allowed to touch because they already did the nikah and he was by islam her husband. They go inside and Mariam serves him tea.

"I don't want you to go out by yourself at night," Malik tells her.

"I didn't want to either. I didn't notice the time, wallah," Mariam says.

"I don't want you to make me worry about you. Please stay safe." mariam nods. "About the paranoia, i know you fear for your safety. And thats normal. Put your trust in Allah and stay away from situations that might end up being harmful. Stay protected."

"I understand." Mariam tried to process everything he said. She made a note to get pepper spray for her safety, just in case.

"Being a niqabi is a responsibility. You are responsible for yourself and how you present yourself."

"True, Malik," she says agreeing with him.

Malik smiles at her. "I'm so proud of you. You are doing so well. May Allah protect you, my dear wife."

"I love you, Malik."

"I love you too, Mariam."
