"YOU'RE DROPPING OUT?!""Why don't you just scream it louder for the whole world to hear?!" Hae Won and I were back at our cafe spot and her recent response invited the whole store to give us dirty looks.
"Oops, sorry!" She whispered, "It's just, this is crazy! How are you going to tell your parents?"
"Woman, are you crazy? First the major change, but if they hear I'm dropping out too, they'd skin me alive!" Just the thought of them knowing brought shivers down my spine. "I'll just tell them when I'm at a good place."
"Bong Cha, are you sure this is a good idea? You're only 19...you can't get anywhere without an education in this world!"
"It's the only way! There's no way I can pay that semester fee while still doing classes. It's just a break for now. I'm going to get a job, pay the fee back, and hopefully by then I'll know what I want to do."
"Did...did your parents really stop paying?"
I let out a sigh as I nodded. "The moment that life-changing phone call ended. Their trying to teach me a lesson, hoping that I'd go back to Pharmacy so they can start paying for me again. But obviously that's not happening..."
"I'm so sorry Bong Cha...if I give you some money..."
I shot her a death stare. "Don't you even think about it, Song Hae Won." Jeez, rich people just have money lying in their pockets to throw around! But Hae Won was the only one I knew that was generous with hers.
She sighed too, "As I thought..." But then she suddenly perked up, "But I found you a job!"
"OMG you did?! That was so fast! I just started looking yesterday, but I couldn't find any good ones!"
"Well, this job has super good pay, full-time, and you only need a high school diploma to get it! And it's literally a dream job for any fan girl!"
I was shook. "How the heck did you find such a good job?! How is it not taken already?"
Hae Won smirked. "Pfft. I have my connections honey."
Wait. Fan girl?
"Hae won...what's the job?"
"That's the only thing...you might not like it..."
"SPILL IT WOMAN."
"Okay, okay! It's working as staff at BigHit Entertainment!" She braced for impact.
"Hae Won...THAT'S THE LAST PLACE I WANT TO WORK."
"Ok, listen! I know you don't care for K-pop, but that's the thing! They need people like you! Not everyone can get the job, because they specifically look for people who aren't interested in super sexy hot Korean oppas that can sing, dance, and rap."
"You disgust me."
"I'm serious Bong Cha! They don't want fan girls, because that'd obviously be a problem. We'd be pouncing on them first chance we get. But you'd be different! You'd actually be able to do the job without getting distracted. And did I mention how good the pay is? And besides, you need a job regardless. You don't really have an option here!"
I guess she had a point. I was sacrificing school, might as well sacrifice everything else.
"How did you exactly get this 'wonderful' job?"
She winked. "I told you, I have connections. Does that mean it's a yes?!"
Ugh. I really did have no other option. And if the pay was good...I can't say no.
"It's a yes."
I would have never guessed that at that moment, my life would change forever.
