Chapter twelve

She never knew she could save a life.

Juniper sat on the steps outside of the school, she sat there with her headphones on and with her notebook in hand, writing swiftly in her leatherback journal, not even noticing that Garret was yelling at her trying to get her attention. When she finally acknowledges his presence, she looks at him with a dead stare. He shrinks back slightly, not knowing what to say. ¨So um..sup?¨ He walks up to her slowly, being cautious of her now irritated mood. ¨Garret just take me home.¨ She glimpses at him and then gets into his car. ¨Yeah...sure.¨

On the way home Garret and Juniper sat silently, not even glimpsing at each other. To end the thick silence Garret turned on the radio, turning on Juniper's favorite song. She quietly hummed to the tune, this made Garret smile, for she only hummed around people she loved and trusted. Gently, Garret placed his hand on top of hers, which sat on the center console. 

Slowly, Juniper intertwined their fingers, making them holding hands a more intimate gesture. She looked at him and laid her head onto his shoulder. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.

When she woke up, Garret was carrying her inside slowly, trying in a poor attempt to not wake her. When he finally noticed that she was awake he set her on her feet and helped her stand up, smiling as she hugged him and cuddled into his chest. ¨I guess someone is sleepy.¨ He smiles once again and takes her to her room. ¨Just a little.¨ Juniper rubs her eyes and yawns, ¨Yeah.¨ 

As Juniper lays down, she pulls Garret down beside her. While she drifts to sleep she falls into a deep, deep dark nightmare. A nightmare that she has been dreaming of for the past three years. But sadly, it isn't a nightmare. It's a vision.

The next day when her and Garret woke up for school, she shook off the dream and got dressed in her Breaking Benjamin baggy tank top and a pair of black leggings. As she threw on her baby blue converse Garret put a piece of toast into her mouth and chuckled as she eagerly ate it. He helped her up and grabbed their things, dragging her out to his car. While he unlocked the doors and started the car, Juniper got in and buckled her seat belt. ¨To school we go.¨

During second block, all of the school is dismissed to a pep rally in the gym. As the gym starts to fill up with students, Juniper notices a few of the clubs with tables up near the doors. While everyone is taking turns chatting with each other, Juniper weaves through the crowd and walks straight up to the tables. While she cluelessly looks around at them someone walks up to her from one of the tables. 

¨Wait, Juniper?¨ Juniper turns to look at the familiar voice. ¨Uniqu?¨ The boy smiles and hugs her tightly. ¨It's been awhile Uniqu, are you still dancing?¨ The boy named Uniqu smiles at her. ¨Of course, in fact i'm on the Elite And Talented team, we are here to dance for the pep rally.¨ Uniqu looks at Juniper, a glint in his eyes. He grabs her hand and spins her around, from years of dancing and out of instinct she spins around. Uniqu smiles brightly. ¨While I was here, Mrs. Hail told me to look for new dancers, you wanna join us? We need you. I know it's short notice, but we need you to dance with us.¨ Juniper thinks to herself that if she joins it would be utterly reckless in the sense that she knows nothing about what they are dancing. ¨But I don't know the dances.¨

¨You will only be dancing in one dance, it's the dance we learned back when you had to leave, before we could perform.¨ Juniper smiles as she remembers the fond memory. ¨So...will you?¨ He looks into her eyes intently. She smiles and nods. ¨Sure, I'll join your little dance team.¨ He smiles and grabs her hand, racing to the locker rooms where all the dancers were changing. After he announces the news, another dancer shows up, obviously late. ¨Jason, you're late.¨

Juniper turns around with her fist to her chest. ¨Jason..?¨ He looks at her speechless. ¨Hey.¨
