Raven strides down the shining
hall, her shoes clicking on the wooden floor. She reaches her destination - an old door - and knocks. The door swings open to reveal a boy, his dusty blonde hair swept across his sea blue eyes.

"Hey, Raven!" he says brightly.

"Hello, Dorian," Raven drawls in a bored tone. "Aberforth is summoning us."

Dorian glances down at his clothes; a plain brown tunic and pants. "Do I look good enough for the master?"

"I don't care," Raven replies flatly as she starts to walk away.

Dorian pouts from behind her. "Would it hurt you too be nice for once?

She glances at him. "Yes, it would." I rather liked this girl. It was a shame what her fate was going to be.

They turn a corner and enter a dimly lit room. The room was small and in the middle was a table scattered various papers and items. On one side of the table there was two small chairs and on the other side there was a large one. Sitting on the large was a broad man with red hair that reached the tip of his shoulders and a short beard.

"Good morning, Master Aberforth," Dorian says as he and Raven bow. Aberforth was the King of Assassins, Dorian and Raven worked for his as two of his most skillful assassins. Although they were the youngests.

"G'morning Dorian. Raven." He gives a slight nod and waves his hand for them to sit. After the both take a seat, he leans forward and rests his head on his hands. A sign that whatever was coming next would not be good. Well not good for them, but good for me.

"Are you both ready for your next mission?" Aberforth asks Dorian and Raven. Dorian doesn't reply, but Raven nods solemnly.

Aberforth stands up and pushes aside some of the paper that had been cluttered on the desk, and replaces the area with a map. He clears his throat. "This is the map you both retrieved the other day," he states. "The map is of an island called Elantya. There is supposed to be treasure on the island." He traces his finger around a red 'X' on the map. "I want you to retrieve it for me."

The instructions were simple and the task seems easy, but Dorian speaks up and says, "I've heard of the Legend of Elantya. Many have gone to retrieve the treasure, but none have ever returned."

Aberforth grins. "Well, I guess you will be the first. You are my best assassins. Now go make me proud. I expect you to leave tomorrow."

Once they leave room, Dorian asks Raven, "So you're just going to go with it?

"Yes," Raven replies shortly.

"But you know no one else has ever come back from Elantya!"

"Well, like Aberforth said, we'll be the first." Humans are so stupid, I snicker.

Dorian groans. "UGH! What is it with you and doing whatever Aberforth says?! You practically worship the guy!"

"Maybe that is because I owe him my life," Raven whispers quietly.

"What?"

"Look, as you know I'm an orphan. My parents threw me out when I was 3 because they didn't have enough money to us. I could barely talk and was wondering the streets aimlessly. I was bloody, bruised and hungry. Aberforth found me and nursed me back to health. He kept me for 15 years. Without him, I would be dead. So yeah, I owe him my life." She sighs and stares at Dorian, her dark eyes seeming to pierce right through him. "I'm not stupid. I know Aberforth only keeps me here because I am one of his best assassins. But he was nice to me when no one else was. He even bothered to tell me stories when I was younger."

Dorian swallows and tries to change the subject. "What kind of stories did he tell you?"

Raven shrugs. "Just the typical. Such as the 'Spirit of Saeva.'"
