Princess Sofia's best friend (and boyfriend) Prince Hugo remembered that his older brother, Axel, had a best friend named Roderick from Corona. The two boys graduated from Royal Prep together, and they didn't see each other until a big jubilee in Albuquerque. Roderick met Hugo at that time and gave him a special dragonfly pin. But the pin turned out to be the pin of Achenheimer, a magically cursed pin that can make anyone sick to their stomach, and Roderick gave it to Hugo on purpose out of jealousy of the latter's bond with Axel. When Axel found out, he was so furious that he banished Roderick from Albuquerque, thus ending their friendship. Since then, that day haunted Axel, and he wished it could've turned out better—but there was a chance that things will be better for him and Hugo very soon.

At Royal Prep, the princes and princesses were really excited because tomorrow they—along with Axel's school—are going on a field trip to the Enchanted Animal Park. After school, Sofia and Hugo met up, excited for tomorrow's field trip.

"I look forward to seeing those Pelicants again," Sofia beamed.

"I don't know what animal to look forward to seeing, but it'll be great nonetheless," Hugo smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow, Sofie!"

Sofia and Hugo got on their flying horses, and they each flew home.

When Hugo and Axel got home, their parents could tell that the former was really excited about tomorrow's field trip—but on the other hand, Axel seemed less than happy.

"Are my boys excited about the field trip?" King Garrick asked.

"Oh, yeah," Hugo beamed. "I mean, going to the Enchanted Animal Park with my Adventure Club was fun and all, but it's not the same as Royal Prep going there with Ever Realm Academy."

"Maybe so," his mother, Queen Samira, smiled. She turned to her oldest son and asked, "Are you excited, Axel?"

But Axel barely even heard his mother. "Yeah, Mom," he said flatly. His unhappiness was really concerning his little brother and their parents.

"Ax, you've been looking forward to this field trip all week," Hugo told him. "Did something happen at school?"

"You bet something happened at school today—there are two new princes at ERA, and you won't believe who they are," Axel replied.

"Who are they?" Hugo asked.

"Roderick and his brother Caleb," Axel revealed.

"Not Roderick from Corona," Hugo gasped.

"I wish it wasn't, but it is," Axel sighed. "He seemed really happy to see me, and he says he looks forward to seeing you again, baby bro."

Hugo didn't like the sound of that. "Why? So he can play another dirty trick on me?" he frowned.

"I don't know, but I don't think I can trust him after he gave you that magic pin to make you sick to your tummy," Axel claimed.

Garrick and Samira didn't like the sound of this news at all, but they wanted their sons to see the bright side.

"We're not happy with what Roderick did either, but it sounds like he's hoping for Hugo to give him a second chance," Garrick surmised.

"I don't know," Hugo frowned.

"Honey, you and Sofia gave each other a second chance, and look how far you've come," Samira told him.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Mom is right, baby bro," Axel declared. "You gave Sofia a second chance, and now you're the best of friends."

Hugo didn't trust Roderick after that incident at the jubilee, but he and Sofia did give each other a second chance, and now they're a beautiful couple. "Okay, I'll try to give Roderick a second chance," he said.

That night, before bed, Hugo used his Enchantlet to contact Sofia. They're both Protectors of the Ever Realm, but their Enchantlets make them Protectors. Hugo was just telling Sofia the bad news.

"Hugo, you're kidding—Roderick is looking forward to seeing you during the field trip?" Sofia frowned.

"That's what Axel told me, and there's a chance Roderick wants to be friends with him again, or Roderick wouldn't want me to give him a second chance," Hugo told her.

"Maybe he does deserve a second chance, but nonetheless, you should watch your back with him," Sofia told him.

Hugo knew Sofia was right—even if Roderick deserved a second chance, he probably couldn't be trusted. Sofia and Hugo had given Princess Hildegard many chances, and she always blew them. But the couple was hoping they'd have more luck with Roderick.
