Shine
THAT FRIDAY WASN'T meant to be special. It was meant to be the same as every other Friday. I was going to wait tables and take orders at The Mad Hatter, hang out with Fox, read my book when we had no customers.
I would blare my music at full blast from my iPod and dance around when Fox and I were the only ones in the diner and sing loudly and off key with crazy dance moves that looked like I was having a seizure, before going home to do basically the same thing, just in my bedroom where no one could see my failing dance moves and save me from social embarrassment for life.
I wish I had of stayed at home with Aunt Rachel. The owner of The Mad Hatter, Eli, had told me I could take the day off; said I didn't need to come in because it would be a slow day.
But I had stupidly declined and told him I needed the money, no matter how small the pay would be, if I was to afford the car I wanted. He had grinned a smile so similar to his son, Fox, and clapped me - a little roughly, may I add - on the shoulder, saying cheerfully,"Your aunt raised you right, Juniper! Take care of yourself, that's what I always say!"
If I had of stayed home like Eli offered, I wouldn't be sitting here, handcuffed to a drain pipe, covered in custard and extra spicy salsa sauce - 'they taste good together, I promise, Junie!' my ass - wearing a stolen shirt with Wanna put your Basilisk in my Chamber of Secrets? written in faded writing, a pair of mismatched cowboy boots on my feet, red glasses and fangs Sharpie'd on my face and my hair dyed blue against my will.
If I had of stayed at home and watched horror movies all day and night and screamed at and thrown popcorn at the TV, I wouldn't be handcuffed beside the idiot that got us into this situation.
If I had of kept Rachel company that day at our small two story house, I wouldn't be pouring my heart out to the idiot who I am completely, undeniably, impossibly, scarily in love with.

SHINE CONFESSION #1:
This book's name was originally Bright but the third book's name would have rhymed with it and I just couldn't handle listening to the two being said like that.
