"OBVIOUSLY."THE BLONDE - what did Maddox say his name was? Reece? - scoffs under his breath at the other boy's comment."We didn't just surprise adopt you for the fun of it, idiot."I spare a scowl at him before turning back to Maddox.
"Alright,"I brush some of my hair behind my ears."what are the elements?"
Maddox ticks them off his fingers,"Fire, water, light, dark, earth, air, time and space. But those aren't their names. Fire is Pyro, water is Hydro, light is Clarum, dark is Achlys, earth is Geo, air is Aero, time is Chrono and space is Locus. Do you think you remember that?"
"Not at all but continue."I wave my hand.
He seems to be getting really into it."Hydro's are the most common, as well as the weakest - water isn't a very powerful weapon - but the Hydro's are probably the kindest. Pyro's are dangerous and usually have a quick temper so I suggest you stay away from them as much as you can. Geo and Aero are strong, not as much as the others but not as weak as Hydro and the Guardians are mostly laid-back. Locus' are probably the biggest tricksters, though when they get over their rivalry and pair up with the Chrono's they're unbearable. The Chrono's will freeze time while the Locus' move the space around you so when the Chrono's unfreeze everything you can be suddenly standing in Greece or Las Vegas or England. Headmistress Carter hates it when she has to send students out to collect the ones the Locus' and Chrono's moved. Achlys-"
Reece cuts him off."Achlys mostly keep to themselves. They're easy to identify - they usually have dark hair, dark eyes, pale skin. They tend to have a sort of dark aura around them that you can see if you look close enough. Oh, also, they have wings."
I blink."What?"
"Wings. You know, around twelve to fifteen feet of bone, muscle and feathers? What birds have, just bigger and on a human - if you can even call Guardians human."
"Reece."scolds Maddox."Stop being so snappy."
The blonde snorts, turns his head away to look out the window of the plane.
"Wait, where are we?"I ask curiously.
"And here comes the scary part."mutters Maddox before clearing his throat."We're on a private jet."
"Going where?"I narrow my eyes when he glances away."Maddox, where are we going?"
The boy mumbles something quietly, playing with his fingers. I demand that he speak up and he shrinks down in the seat, whispering even quieter.
"Where are we going?!"
"America!"Reece yells, throwing his hands in the air."For god's sake, we're going to America."And that's when I realise what his accent is. It's a heavy American one, even more noticeable when he's frustrated, as he is now.
I feel like I've just been punched in the gut again by him. I look back and forward between them. Maddox is fearfully leaning away from me, looking ready to jump out of his chair at any second while Reece appears to be waiting for my reaction. "Well, I've always wanted to go to America?"It comes out like a question.
Maddox sighs, clearly relieved I didn't jump on him screaming and clawing at his eyeballs with my nails. Reece growls like an animal before he stands up and storms off, slamming the door of what I think is a restroom closed behind him at the back of the jet.
"Don't worry about Reece. He's just upset that he didn't get to go on a Legend. He's been waiting for one for so long and when the last group of Guardians went out he thought he was going to go with them. Instead, Headmistress Carter sent us here to collect you."Maddox smiles. He has a nice smile, I decide, one that lights up his whole face and makes you feel all warm inside. Fox has a smile like that too, his eyes shining happily as his lips curl into a grin and he unknowingly screws up his nose. He is adorable in all senses of the word. Though where Fox has a boy-next-door look, Maddox is has more of a misanthropist, cuddly-puppy-sacrificing air about him, which completely goes against his bright, cheery attitude.
