The room was nearly pitch black. All that could be seen was one’s hand in front of one’s face. The dimmed light protruding from the ceiling only helped to see what was above, and Astryd Valkary had no interest in what was above her. All that really held her attention in these ridiculous drills was the curved gun in her hand, and using it to shoot Vicki Weathers. Slowly, Astryd got up from her crouched position, looking around frantically for the enemies that could not be seen, and raised her gun. But that was hardly important right now, the thing she needed was to pass.
Astryd reached her left hand out to feel for the closest wall, but she found nothing except open air. She took two steps forward, and found it. Running her hands along the wall she looked for the button, small as… well… a button. A scuffing noise took her by surprise and she froze, not moving a muscle, stopping all movement. Footsteps Astryd took a step back, nearly forgetting the wall all together. Someone was in front of her, about three meters at the most, the sounds of dirt crunching under their books turned her blood to ice. The smell of blood was thick in the air; this only added to her distress, this person was a top ranking killer.
Wiping her sweat-beaded face, Astryd took another step back, gun outstretched. She had no chance in a fair fight, not against this kind of enemy. She needed to get away, far away. She began looking for anything around her to distract the enemy, but the area was clean. Astryd would have thrown dirt, but it was not available to her, but to her opposition it was used as a weakness, to let foes know when they were coming. Another crunching of dirt, she needed to move now! Astryd shot into the darkness, the blue laser flying across the area between her and the unknown. It sparked about four meters away, moving either side of a last second energy shield that resembled beehive engineering.
Now she was in for it, bullets began blazing towards her in a rain of green. She only jumped to the left at the very last second, luckily moving into an empty area, beyond the enemy’s line of sight. ‘Light!’ she squealed.
‘Activating light.’ Said the annoying monotonic Female British AI connected to her helmet. The blue light beam began to shine in front of her. The crunching of boots was getting louder as the enemy was closing in. Turning back, she saw the door release, and quickly ran to it, and clicked it. The boy she hated came into view just too late, his face a mixture of sick content and relief, his green light blinding her as the door snapped shut in front of him, bouncing his bullets back at him. ‘Thirteen points for: inducing Enemy Self Harm.’ The AI said.
‘Yeah… that’s great.’ Panting, she turned up the brightness on her light and looked around; she was in a white room with no affects, nothing except two exits, the way she came in, and the way she would be going out, which was only an escape hatch. Astryd rubbed her sore eyes and wiped her sweaty hands on her blue jumpsuit. Her strawberry blonde hair was also drenched, but she hardly had time to ring it out. They probably knew where she was, and if that boy would have anything to do with it, he would be the one to hold her down while Vicki beat the crap out of her.
‘Incoming message from: Director Johnson.’
Astryd quickly turned the volume up.
‘Very good, Blues, but there aren’t many of you left. Oh, actually there is now only one of you left. And according to three complaints from the green Squad about unfair camping, all entrances are now accessible by both squads! Good luck everyone!’
‘Message ended.’
‘WHAT?’ Astryd turned off her light as the industrial illumination came on, lighting the entire area. ‘That is completely unfair! I haven’t even been here for two minutes!’
