"Fallen angel, in the dark"
"Angie?"
"Never thought you'd fall so far."
"Angie!"
"Shit!"
I pull my earbuds out and look over at my friend Runey. Her real name is Rune Bexter but I call her Runey because her tiny nose reminds me of a little rabbit nose.
"You weren't listening again," she says.
"What? You were saying something?" I ask.
"Yeah, I was talking about the Halloween dance, are you gonna go?"
I think about it for a minute. Last year, our Freshman year, the Halloween dance kind of sucked considering there was some drama because Runey was upset about her ex boyfriend dancing with someone else and he wouldn't ask her if she wanted to dance. And I was kind of upset because my crush, Liam, was literally asking every girl to dance with him EXCEPT me.
"I'm not sure, Runey. I'll think about it though," I tell her. She nods and turns back to her homework. We're working on Geometry, and she kind of struggles with it. I guess she kind of struggles with every subject we have . . .
I put my earbuds back in and start my music again. I think about it, the dances were kinda fun though. We got to eat and have soda and we stayed out until 11:00. It was pretty cool. Turns out Liam didn't want to dance with me because he was scared of my dad, I had showed a lot of people a picture of Isabelle, my sister, and I next to him while he's holding his shotgun. He had seen it apparently and didn't ask me to dance because he didn't want a bullet in his leg, or head, whichever my father was in the mood for that day.
I get back to my homework and dance to my music. A really good song comes on and I unplug my earbuds from my phone and let it play out loud.
"OMG!! This is a GREAT song!" Exclaims Runey. I nod enthusiastically in agreement and we get up and start dancing around my room. We're really having fun until we hear my mother knock on the door and yell at us to quiet down.
"Right back at you mother," I whisper under my breath, loud enough just for Runey to hear and we both snicker.
"Anyway, how do you feel about the new Freshman?" She asks me after we get settled back down.
"Eh, they're younger than us but think they're so much better," I say.
"I don't know, some of them are kinda cute," She says.
"Ew! I would never date someone younger than me," I say, "My dream is for an older guy, way taller than me, to be my husband. I want him to be able to pick me up all the time and I have to get on my tippy toes to kiss him."
"I'm down for anyone that wants to fuck," she says.
I throw my pillow at her. "We're only Sophomores!" I exclaim.
"So? If it's that time it's that time girl," she throws the pillow back at me.
I roll my eyes at her and get back to working on my Math. Like she would ever let anyone take her pants off, she was too nervous to make out with Ray (her ex boyfriend) in the seventh grade.
"I can't wait for the football game Friday," says Runey.
"Me either," I say, "The band is gonna be great this year!"
"Only because we're in it, those icky seventh graders are kinda stinky," she says while dramatically holding her nose and waving her free hand in front of her face.
"They're not THAT bad."
"Have you been near some of them?" She asks.
"Yes hon, there are like five or six of them in percussion," I point out.
"Oh yeah," she says, "Good luck with that."
"Won't need it," I say, "I've got this in the bag."
