After school I head to my locker to grab my homework. When I get there I'm surprised to realize that Eric hasn't harassed me in a while.
"Heyyyyyy."
Shit, thought too quick.
"What do you want, Eric?" I turn around, my locker still open.
He places his fingers on the edge of the opening in my locker. "I was just wondering if you wanted to do some things with me later." He takes his other hand and places it on my hip. His hand starts to go down to grab my butt, but before he could do that I stepped out of the way and slammed my locker on his fingers.
"AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! SON OF A BITCHERCRACKER!!!" He grasps his hand and falls to his knees.
"I've had enough of your shit Eric. I'm freaking done ok?" I say calmly. I can't take it anymore.
"Argh! You're gonna pay for that." He gets up and grabs my throat with his good hand and shoves me against the locker for the 100th time this school year.
"Get off of me!" I shout in his face.
"I like it when the girls fight back," he says, his hands pushing further into my neck.
"I said get the fuck off!" My voice barely a whisper because of his hand on my throat. When I shove him off I fall to the ground and cough. Getting my air back I shut my eyes tight and breathe in deep.
"Hey! Leave her alone!"
I look up and see a kid I've never seen before. His hair is blonde and he has deep green eyes, they remind me of emeralds.
"Fine. I was just leaving." Eric pushes himself off of the floor and walks over to me and grabs my hair and pulls me up. "If you ever pull a stunt like that again, I'll-"
"You'll WHAT?" I rasp.
Eric gives me a look with all of the hate he has for me. There's something else in his eyes too. Is that . . . Lust!?
The new kid that told him to leave me alone runs over and shoves Eric into the lockers next to me.
"I said leave her the fuck alone." He stands there staring at Eric. Eric can only hold his stare for a second until he has to look away. He finally gets up and leaves.
"Are you ok?" Blondie comes over and helps me up.
"Yah, I'm ok," I whisper.
"Does he always do that?" He asks me.
I nod, too tired to speak.
"Fucking prick." He turns around, probably to go after him. I grab his arm, too scared for him to leave me. I may act like a tough one, but I'm downright terrified to be honest.
"What?" He looks down at my shaking hand on his arm. "Oh, sorry. I just hate guys like that." He takes my hand from his arm and takes me in. He literally does the whole look down at my body and back up again. I punch him.
"Pervert," I say.
"Hey! Your voice is coming back!" He exclaims.
"He just pushed on my neck too hard. I'm ok. Thanks for helping me," I thank him.
"No problem, and I'm not a pervert by the way. I just like appreciating what could be mine someday." He winks at me and walks away.
". . ." I just watch him leave.
"I don't even know your name."

When I get home I go to my room and do my homework. Halfway done with my History I get a call. It's an unknown number. I pick up anyway.
"Hello?"
"Hey! It's Shane." I hear on the other end.
"Who's Shane?" I ask.
"It's not who he is, it's who's he is."
It takes me a moment to understand what he meant. Then I realize.
"You're the guy from earlier aren't you?"
"Yep, that's me boo," Shane says.
I just shake my head. This guy is too confident.
"So, Shane, who's are you?" I say into the phone.
There's a long pause before he answers. "I could be yours."
I wait for the butterflies to come, but they don't. Only a warmth that starts in the middle of my gut. It doesn't get bigger, but it doesn't go out either.
"I barely know you," I say.
"Then come over and we can get to know each other better," He says.
"How about some other time, when I've gotten to know you better at school. You know, where there are people around and you don't try anything too slick. Besides, I thought you hated guys like Eric," I point out.
"I hate guys that beat on women, I never said anything about flirting," he says.
"Well, it's pretty strong," I say. "You're really confident in yourself, aren't you?"
"Yah," he chuckles, "A little."
"Funny, because you should be. Be careful though, you don't want to sweep the wrong girl off of her feet," I say, "Wait . . . How did you get my number?" I ask.
"Umm . . . A girl named Annie? I have weights with her and she told me about you, so I asked for you number . . ." He explains.
I sigh. "Annnnniiiiieeeeeee," I groan, "She's always trying to set me up since-" I stop suddenly, not wanting to give away too much.
"Since what?" Shane asks.
"N- Nothing."
"Ok, I'll let it slip this one time," He says.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and relax. I just met this kid, why do I feel like I'm falling?
"Well, I have homework to do so . . ." I start.
"Oh! Yah! Totally! I'll let you do that. So . . . I'll see you tomorrow?" He says.
"Umm . . ." I bite my lip, trying to hold back the giggles of nervousness. "Yah, see ya." I hang up, then I pick up my pencil to get started on my homework again.
I find myself not being able to concentrate. I keep thinking about how brave and confident Shane was today in the hallway. I loved the way he told Eric off, regardless if he knew him or not. The way he touched my hand after I grabbed his arm . . .
I bite my lip.
I think I'm in love again.
