As the dragons grew I found my grip getting tighter around the pummel of my new sword and the fight began to swell inside me. That was when Angel stuck her hand out to pet her dragon and get her scent. My first thought was that she was starting our first fight together.
I went to raise my sword when Angel told me not to but to try letting the dragon get my scent and let it get to know me. For some reason I felt a strange sense of calm rush over me like gentle wave rolling over the sand. So I did as she asked as I stuck my hand out to let this huge scaly beast get to know my scent. My first thought was that I might not have a hand any more when this is all done. The dragon took its time looking at me from head to toe then it walked behind me at the same time that Angel's dragon did. My instant thought was that I was going to die right there. Then in a sudden burst of flames and force, I was in the air and as I looked down, I saw the dragon that had my blood start to catch fire, but not just any fire....... my fire of the black flame. At that same moment Angel's dragon did the same thing with her purple flames.
Next thing that I knew, I was falling out of the air and off the back of the flaming beast! I blinked only for a moment then I hit gently and was back on the back of the flaming monster. Then I heard a scream and I ripped my eyes away from looking at my dragon and saw Angel falling from the sky. At that moment I wished that I could fly and catch her from falling then just as that thought passed through my head, her dragon erupted into a purple flamed flight and caught her in mid air, just as my dragon had done, and Angel had a smile on her face as she flew by me. I then knew that from this moment on that they would be our protectors and we were theirs.
We landed and we were laughing and smiling and then Count Drewel asked us a simple but puzzling question. "What are you two going to name your dragons?"
"I don't know. I have never named a dragon before." I said.
Then like a whisper in my ear I heard the name Taridon.
"I will name him Taridon." I proclaimed.
I looked at Angel and she looked like she had heard a whisper like I had.
She then stated that she was going to call hers Sapphire.
" Now that that's settled let's get down to business." Count Drewel said.
"What business are you talking about?" I asked.
"I am talking about your job. You are the Wolf Fang Rider you are my bounty hunter." Count Drewel stated with a less than pleased tone to his voice.
"Ok what do I have to do as your bounty hunter?" I said slightly intrigued by the proposition being placed in front of me. I could tell that he knew that he had my full attention.
"You will find the people and beasts that I tell you to find and bring their souls as well as their blood to me and I will take care of the rest." He said with a smile.
" How am I going to catch the souls of these creatures? If I may ask." I questioned with the curiosity of a small child flashing in my eyes.
"That you will be doing with the help of your dragon, Sapphire and the ever so lovely Dark Angel as well as your powers." He said with a Cheshire cat grin to where you could see his shining white fangs in the dark of the night. The reason he was smiling was because he knew that he had me the minute he mentioned Angel.
"What kind of powers?" I asked trying to hide from Angel what the Count had seen.
" You can turn a creature to ash with the grip of your hand. Drain a person's soul by looking into their eyes and drain all their blood with a single bite. Your sword's are not only for fighting but they are also carriers that you will store soul's in and that will carry life's blood back to me. Among other powers as well as the ones that you already had to begin with."
"Alright I will work for you but only if you promise me one thing."
"What would that be Wolfrick?"
"I want you to promise that you will let me find the people that killed my mother and let me do to them as they deserve no matter who it is. Fair?" I said looking him in the eyes attempting to read him. He paused for a minute but that minute felt like forever! Finally he agreed to my terms.
