This chapter is for all of you, but this one goes out especially to my home girl Zoie for helping me create an important character for this story

9: Together & Divided By None

Jaysen, Joey, Braydon, and myself leaned with our backs to the stone wall encircling one of the lavish courtyards in the Council’s Realm. Around us a good 150-200 individuals were milling about the plants and stone walkways eagerly awaiting for the Elders in charge of building teams to announce their final decisions on who would be teamed with who.

Once teams were made they generally stayed that way for a long time. Each team had a ducter which was like the team captain and a co ducter which was second in command. Then there typically was a medic and other members selected on their various skills and Meraki attributes. Teams were not usually made up of individuals with all the same Meraki type because it left them unbalanced and made it more difficult to defend one another.

Surprisingly my anxiety level being around this many people in such close proximity was only a 7 out of 10 as appose to the usual 86 out of 10.  Regardless of my recent adaptation to socialization I still couldn’t stop myself cursing every moment under my breath and wondering what in the world was taking the Elders so long….

“What’s the hold up in here?” Castel walked into the sunlight rich room that housed a long iron and glass table and 8 cloaked individuals seated at one end.

An elf women in a green cloak snapped her attention to the open door. She had purple tinted lips and a green half-moon with three uneven lines moving down her cheek drawn under her left eye. The right eye had a green vine like swirl that wrapped its way around her temple. “Greetings wise Castel. We seem to be in disagreement on a particular team.”

Caderyn shuffled some parchment in front of him, “Asëa  and myself want to make Kiylee the ducter of her team with the Kazimir’s future Alpha boy as the co-ducter. Arwyn praised the idea very highly last night when we gathered. But that is more then not the general consensus.”

A man in a red robe with the hood drawn spoke. “The girl has proven herself to be unpredictable and has no respect for authority, she hasn’t earned a leadership role yet.  The Kazimir Boy has more than proven himself over the years and should be the Ducter of the team.”

Caderyn responded to the red cloaked man, “Dunmorth, she is young but has shown some growth despite her flaws. Making her take on this responsibility will help morph her into a calmer and more responsible hunter.” Caderyn paused and muttered “Ideally,” under his breath so that no one else could hear him.

“Kazimir is very mellow and a born leader, much more than most wolves his age.  It’s a strange thought to not have him is the head of the team but placing him as number 2 still gives him the leadership role he was clearly born to fulfill.  And his tranquility could be a positive influence on that spit fire of a girl.” A women draped in yellow added.
