The first thing to keep in mind when writing fanfiction (or any novel, really) is that readers want your story to feel as REAL as possible. They want to feel your characters emotions. They want to see a mental picture of the setting of your story. And whats especially important with fanfiction is that they want to imagine that the story is happening to them. If anything seems out of place or just doesn't seem right, people will immediately pull away and get distracted from what's important - your story! So always remember, the goal is to keep things realistic as possible.
