Welcome home

There I am, on top of the staircase. I put on a big smile even though I feel like I might barf from nervousness. The crowd below me was smiling and laughing. Applauding for me, the long lost princess.

My name used to be Abby Wilson but now it is Emerald Kimora. Now, this isn't the type of story where I find out I'm the lost princess and go through a whole journey where I find myself, no, that's another story, a simpler story, an innocent story.

No, this story is about something much darker.

But of course, you need to know where it all started. And it all started here, my welcome home party. Now I'm a princess so you already know it's a ball. Just like the ones you see in the movies.

I smile and start to head down the stairs gracefully. I have been living in the castle learning how to be the perfect princess for 5 years. I know, everyone thinks I have just been found, but nope I've been here since I was 11. I'm sixteen now and I like to think I have perfected being a princess.

I reach the end of the stairs in my light pink gown. With my brown hair curled. My emerald green eyes were sparkling under the chandelier light.

People start to greet me and two old ladies came up to me "Oh princess what an honor to have you back." They bowed and I replied "Thank you. It's an honor to be back." They left and I went to greet many, many guests.

An old man and his young wife just left after saying their hellos. It honestly disgusted me, that old man looks like he might die in a year and the girl looked 20.

I looked around to all the people laughing and talking with Champagne in hand. Some couples were dancing in the middle of the ballroom with the girl's beautiful gowns swaying with their movements. The light from the chandeliers shining everywhere filling the enormous room with an everlasting light, the polished marble shining beneath our feet.

I began to walk around when I felt hot and crowded. I decided that I would go to the garden. Luckily the ballroom leads to the garden, so I walked to the other side of the ballroom making my way through the crowd.

I open the doors and step outside. I'm greeted by the cold wind on my face. I smile taking a deep breath of the garden and wind, that had the scent of the sea in It.

The castle garden was huge, with all the flowers you can think of and it had a large selection of only roses. And if you walk along a trail you will see a lake and next to the lake was a big oak tree, with a swing on it. The tree wasn't close enough to swing in the water with it. Sadly. But not like they would let me do that anyway.

The garden was my favorite place in the whole palace. It was peaceful their, a place where I didn't have to be a princess and I could just get lost in my thoughts.

I walk over the roses and admire them. The queen like me loved roses, so she had all kinds of roses planted in the garden, one of every color. And I loved all of them.

Everything looked so beautiful under the full moon. Suddenly I heard an "Ahem." I quickly turned around to see a boy my age standing there. A red rose in hand, he quickly bowed and I did the same. He stepped forward handing me the rose.

I got a good look at him, he had a cute face but there was a white outline of a large scar on his cheek. "For you princess Emerald." I accepted the rose and said "Why thank you. And please call me Emerald." I gave him a kind smile and the smile he gave me was not the same. It was a Smirk with mischief in his eyes.

"Emerald I heard you like roses. " He pointed at the rose and I gave a small smile looking down blushing a little bit. "So Emerald what are you doing out here?" He asked taking a step closer to me. "Umm, well I just needed some fresh air away from the party."

He chuckled a deep chuckle for a 16-year-old. Yet when I look at his face and his dull blue eyes. They have an old age.

"Haha yeah, I get it. Would you like to take a walk?" I gave him a skeptical look, but knowing that there was a huge party with more then 200 people and I'm the guest of honor, that if anything happens to me and I'm gone for a long time they will surely notice.

"Okay....." He let me lead and I started walking to the lake. "So Emerald, how did you find out you were a princess?"

"Well I found my adopted mother's diary about how she was friends with a queen from a different land, and after my real mother died she took me in," I say and smell the rose

He looked at me weird, "What?" I ask "How do you talk about it so easily?" I shrug "I don't know, it got easier., I guess." We continued to walk to the lake. When I realized something. I turn to the boy and said: " Wait.... you never told me your name?"

He gave a small laugh and said: "That's because I didn't tell you." I scoffed "ha okay." The stone path ended and there in front of us was the lake.

I look at myself in the lake, my light pink dress almost looking white. I turn to the boy, he looks at me and says "Emerald do you believe in magic?" I gave him a strange look and took a step back looking at him. A strand of his black hair falling in front of his face, giving him a startling look. I take another step back as his blue eyes give me a troubled look.

"Yes I do.... why?"

He gave me the same mischiefs look that he gave me when we first met. Then suddenly a hand covered my mouth with the most disgusting smell like chemicals and acid.  I scream and struggle.

Then, all was black.
