You took on so much work
Trying to be the perfect student, friend, and daughter.
You refused to let anyone in so they could help
Because you thought that you could do it all by yourself.
"I'm tired" was all you seemed to say everyday
So everyone assumed that everything was okay.
You took the boulders off of everyone's shoulders,
Only adding to the mountain that rested on your own.
Leaving you feeling drained and all alone.
You pushed yourself past the breaking point
The fragile glass finally cracking and crashing and clashing to the ground.
It left behind an empty frame,
As you hung your head in failure and shame.
Anxiety blossomed, leaving you in constant tears.
It creaked, creeped, crawled its way into your fears.
Everyday it got harder to breathe,
Like you were drowning in the depths of desolate seas
You feel empty, yet so full of emotion.
Some days, you feel everything at once.
Other days, you feel nothing at all.
Now you're that girl up at the 3 A.M.
Staring at the ceiling 'til who knows when
Sometimes you cry, sometimes you don't.
Sometimes you imagine you float in a boat.
Sometimes you're thankful you slept through the night.
'Cause it's the only time you feel alright.
Everyday you tell yourself to smile.
Move on with your day,
Hold back the tears and pretend that you're okay.
You feel alone.
Even surrounded by a sea of people.
Feeling like you don't belong with them,
Or anywhere else in the world.
All you want to do is live
And yet you can't think of any reason to stay.
You used to be a girl who did everything.
Joined clubs, made friends, tried new things.
You were excited to explore and learn and experience.
But now you hide beneath this constant fear that everything you do is wrong.
You've changed, leaving behind that girl.
That girl you once knew is gone, you've lost yourself
She sits there in the sad silence collecting dust on a shelf.
Here lies the girl that used to be
Little did I know, that this girl is me.
