I grabbed my suitcase off my bed and make my way downstairs. "I already told you, Susan, I need the extra hours." My mother exclaims from the kitchen. Minutes later i hear the phone slam down. I cautiously walk in the kitchen. My mother is seated at the table, her head hanging into her palm, bills scattered out all over the table.
"Everything okay?" I ask cautiously. My mother is the type who gets stressed easily and freaks out over little things. "No." She cries out. "They're cutting my hours short and we really need the extra cash." She whines. My mom is loaded she just likes to come off broke and fakes being upset so people will pity her. Her parents gave her little to no attention when she was growing up
I really didn't have time for this right now. My dad would be here soon to pick me up. I walked over to where she sat and wrapped my arms around her. "It'll be okay, mom." I cooed softly. "We'll figure it out, we always do." I reassured her, wiping the tears off her cheeks.
A loud knock came from the front door. That must be my dad. I bid my goodbyes to my mom and promised to keep in touch during the summer then climbed into my dad's giant red truck. "Hey girlie. How's it been." He smiled and embraced me in a hug. "It's alright I suppose." I laughed and hugged him back.
My dad and I aren't really that close. He lives 6 hours away, in a different state. This is suppose to be a "bonding trip". My dad and I are both very awkward. I'm sure if we both come out of our shells, we'd be pretty close. But as of right now, we're not that close. We made small talk for about 30 minutes then the rest of the 6 and a half hours we drove in silence. Just enjoying each others presence.
My dad and step mom just got divorced, which has really impacted my dad. They were together for 15 years, they split up because she found some new younger guy. I always wanted a love like they had, they seemed perfect. They never fought, they both enjoyed doing the same dumb silly things together. I don't think anyone expected them to ever split up.A//N
It'll get better soon. Hopefully you don't completely hate this story. Love you xx
