Chapter 1

My dream was very peaceful. I laid on a bed of flowers, humming a song my mom used to sing to me when I was five and wouldn't calm down. I looked up at the cloudy, blue sky. White bunnies, ships, and other shapes took up the blue canvas. I could have laid there forever...

"Harper!" Who was that, I thought, it sounded so far away... It sounded like a girl? "Harper!" The voice called again. It sounded closer than before. "Harper! You're going to be late to school if you don't wake up!!!" The flowers started to fade, as well as the sky. I was waking up.

"Harper Rose Wilson!!! Wake up!!!" My dream had almost entirely disappeared, so I could tell the voice was coming from my mother. The grass was all that was left and I waited patiently for my dream to go away. I was becoming cautious; I could feel the cold breeze that was coming through my window seal.

WAIT!!! Who was that? I thought right before I woke up. Someone was in my dream, and I had no clue who it was. "Harper!!!" My mom yelled so loud I'm pretty sure people in China heard it. "I'm up...I'm up..." I said as I threw off the raggedy, old quilt my mother made me about 15 years ago.

I sat  up and looked around my barely lit room. I could still see the toy chest in the corner filled with my dad's old stuff. I have never looked inside it, even though my mother constantly tells me that I should. I glanced up  at my wallpaper. It's the same one that was on there when we moved in. It's covered in roses and daises but couldn't quite be seen as I hide it with posters.

I turned around and saw 7:32 flashing on the alarm clock. I better start getting ready. I stood up and walked to the bathroom I share with my mother. I combed my hair and brushed my teeth. I'm too tired to do a make-up session that usually takes like an hour so I went for the simple look -mascara and lip gloss. I looked in the mirror one more time Before heading back to my room.

I rummaged through my closet for something decent to wear. It took me a while but I finally found a good outfit. I put on a pair of faded blue jeans and a turquoise tank. I slipped on my shoes and started to head downstairs when another cold breeze hit me. I turned around and went back for my jacket. I ran downstairs, grabbed my backpack and I started for the door.

A gust of freezing wind hit me as soon as I stepped outside. I pulled my jacket closer to me while I jogged to the car. "Tonight, remember to set your alarm because I'm not waking you up tomorrow." My mother said to me when I got my seat belt buckled.

I know.... I know, I wanted to say but I didn't because I knew she was going to be working double shifts for the rest of the week. "Yes ma'am," I said like a good girl. We pulled out the driveway.

Who was that in my dream? I kept asking myself as we drove. I looked out the window and let that question play  over and over in my head.
