Chapter 2

School started off as usual. I went to the gym first period to start cheerleading, but only half the team was there. Most of the girls had the flu and would be gone for three days, so I told the girls they could have the day off; if they didn't go around and get me in trouble.

My best friend, Samantha, and I went to the field to watch the football team practice. Samantha, who I call Sam, is more than a friend, she's a sister. We have known each other since Kindergarten, so if there was even a slightest chance I was her sister, I would leave my mom and join her happy family. But we look nothing alike; she is short, skinny as bones, and has brown hair. And I am Medium height (not short but not tall either) and I have blonde hair.

But a girl can still dream right? We walk to the very top of the bleachers and sit down. I look over and see Cody running. He stops; he looks at me and waves, but then automatically turns around and starts to run again.

"What's wrong?" Sam asked. I didn't hear her the first seven times she asked.

"What do you mean?" I said thinking about the guy in my dream, while looking at Cody as he tackles players.

She gives me a funny look and says, "Ever since you got to school you have been staring off into space and you have your thinking look on. “What's going on?” She asks me.

I'll tell you what's going on, I had a dream and there was a guy in it. I have no clue the guy was. I have to tell her though, I just have no clue how I can tell her that doesn’t make me sound like I have gone psycho.

"Harper?" She waited. “Fine... Fine.... It's because of a dream I had," I tell her. She looks at me. And not in that "Your going crazy" way, but that” I know what your going through, I won't judge" way. I smile, "It's not the dream that I'm worried about, it’s the guy I saw in it."

I look away from Sam and focus my eyes on Cody. I peek a glance at Sam and she's watching me. She studies for what seems like days and then speaks up. "Maybe it was your fath....." She was cut off by the coach's whistle.

OMG!!!!! She was going to mention my.... my..... My dad. I quickly wiped a tear from my face and looked up.

Cody was running up the bleachers. I give Sam a “maybe later" look. She nodded and looked up at Cody. "Hey, Cody. How have you been," she says as Cody sits down in front of me. “Hey Samantha. I’ve been well," he says using Sam's full name.

“Hey Harps!!!" He says, smiling the biggest smile in the world. "Hey," I respond, returning the smile. I tell him why we weren't at practice and he said that he didn’t mind because he got to see me. He's so sweet when he wants to be.

The coach blows his whistle again and Cody gets up. "Bye Harps. Bye Samantha. I'll see ya'll later." He gives me one big smile and then runs down the bleachers.

"As I was saying..... What if the guy in your dreams was your fath..." I stop her with the wave of my hand. "Don't..... Don't.... please don't finish that sentence," I say as I get up and run down the bleachers.

I bite my lip, because it's supposed to stop you from crying. It doesn’t. I burst into tears as soon as I'm on the ground. I can her Sam screaming after me but I don't stop running till I'm in the bathroom stalls.
