Ejaz had just been passed the marriage register, only his sign is needed to seal the marriage. He paused hearing the commotion amongst the crowd.
'That heavily pregnant woman, she has fainted.' One of Pinky's aunt said. Ejaz is shocked fearing that the woman might be Anah, she is the only one fitting the description. He pushed his Sehra off his face and looked around, he saw a crowd gathered around a pregnant woman and a man kneeling beside her. Reyhan is fanatically calling someone on the phone while Anah is withering in pain.
'Anah!' Ejaz removed his turban and stood up but before he could go his father held his arm.
'Ejaz the marriage.' He said and clenched his arm tightly.
'**** the marriage.' Ejaz said jerking his arm from his father's grip.
'Did you call the ambulance?' Ejaz hurried towards Reyhan. He nodded and added, - 'many times.' Reyhan looked like close to crying. Ejaz fished out his phone and called the ambulance urgently.
'I will take her in my car.' Ejaz said urgently. He bent down to take Anah in his arms but Reyhan said interrupted, - 'No, it is too risky to drive her there.'
'We have to do the delivery quick, I will do it.' A middle-aged woman stepped forward. She introduced herself as Dr. Kajal Krishan a gynecologist. The two men are relieved. Dr. Kajal suggested them to take her inside. The crowd looked panicked as well.
Ejaz scooped Anah in his arms, as his palm accidentally touched her belly he felt the baby move, perhaps its taking position to come out. Reyhan let him carry her as he is stronger than him and they must be quick.
Dr. Kajal and Reyhan followed Ejaz inside. Though Anah was very heavy Ejaz managed to be quick.
'Only one of you can be with me.' Dr. Kajal said. Before Ejaz could answer, Reyhan interrupted, - 'I am her husband.' Dr. Kajal took him inside, to help them few ladies also followed inside. Ejaz is disappointed, he wanted to be with Anah but he pushed back the thought. Now, is not the time to be dejected.
Ejaz paced outside, he kept running his fingers through his hair anxiously. Anah's screams are making him very restless.
Reyhan was no less in a panic state. He sat beside Anah holding her palm tightly as she gave birth in one of the rooms of the farmhouse.
Almost forty minutes passed and with each passing time, Ejaz and Reyhan felt their heart beat increase. Five minutes later, Anah yelped loudly giving one hard push. Reyhan winced as her fingernails dug into his flesh. Then he noticed something in between her legs. It looked slimy and is covered with blood.
Reyhan sighed in relieve looking at the doctor carefully cut the umbilical cord and pick up the baby.
Ejaz heard the cries of a baby and is relieved. He exhaled loudly placing his palms on his hips.
'Anah.' Reyhan smiled pushing aside her hair off her sweaty forehead. Anah nodded gently, she fought to catch her breath. She fell back against the bed struggling to breathe. Reyhan kissed the back of her palm and then her forehead.
'Congratulation.' He whispered. Anah just smiled little acknowledging him.
