When Anah opened her eyes, she found herself in a familiar room, she looked around recognizing the room be one of the rooms in Ejaz's farmhouse. She felt someone holding her hand and turned her head to her left and found Reyhan beside her. He leaned front holding her palm tightly in his and his head resting on their joined palms. She smiled at him.
Anah felt pain in between her legs, she moved her legs and felt a weight shift from her feet. She stretched her neck little and is surprised to find Ejaz seated on the ground, his head resting at her feet. Anah noted he is still dressed in his Shervani. Just then her gaze fell on her belly. She touched it realizing the baby isn't there anymore.
'My Baby....' She whispered. As she moved Reyhan and Ejaz woke up.
'Anah.' They said in unison. Anah doesn't reply them, she turned her head to her right and smiled on seeing her baby beside her. It looked so cute wrapped up in a towel with only its face peeking. Anah noticed its eyes were closed and it is breathing steadily.
'It's a girl.' Reyhan said softly. Anah looked at him and he smirked at her. He had the told-you look. Anah smiled, she doesn't care about the gender anymore.
Then she gently picked up the baby in her arms. Holding her own baby felt magical. Anah couldn't put into words how she felt as she admired the baby girl, her baby girl.
She smiled looking at Reyhan, he smiled back. Carefully, she passed the baby to Reyhan. He blinked his tears as he held the baby carefully in his hands.
What a feeling? Reyhan felt overjoyed. He has never felt this connection with any other baby, ever. It felt like his own. Reyhan had tears in his eyes. Anah moved her hand and lovingly caressed the top of her baby's head.
'Can I...hold it.' Anah looked up as Ejaz spoke. She pressed her lips tightly. She wanted to refuse but Reyhan held her shoulder and silently urged to pass the baby to him.
Ejaz felt a wave of warmth rush through him as he held the baby girl in his arms. The baby is slightly chubby and he guessed Anah was well taken care of during her pregnancy.
He noticed how similar it looked to Anah, the same eyes, the cute nose. The lips pink and slightly parted. Ejaz couldn't stop himself as he kissed the girl's forehead, it shifted little in his arms but Ejaz held it protectively. Slowly, the newborn opened her eyes and stared at Ejaz. Anah noticed his eyes twinkle with unshed tears. There were tears in her eyes as well.
Ejaz is surprised as he noted the baby's slightly curly hair, just like his. He looked up, Anah has wavy hair but mostly straight and Reyhan has sleek straight hair. He looked back and observed the baby carefully, the lips and the chin area resembled him. Suddenly, Ejaz felt guilt stab his chest.
All this while, Anah had been saying the truth she was indeed carrying his child. Ejaz cursed himself. But before he could spend more time with the baby, Reyhan insisted he takes her back. Though Ejaz didn't want to part with his baby, he reluctantly agreed. Ejaz watched him enviously as Reyhan spoke words to the little one trying to sound cute.
'Hey, Anah. She smiled. See, she likes Daddy more than Mummy. She smiled in Daddy's arms.' Reyhan said with pride. Anah chuckled.
Ejaz felt angry when Reyhan referred to himself as the father. No, he is not, Ejaz is the father. He felt possessive of the baby.
Both Anah and Reyhan ignored him so he angrily left.
