"Hold him down my fellow healers."
At the very moment a dark haired she-elf was tending to a wound of a fallen soldier. Her blood stained hands had applied much needed ointment to the sword wound. She had to coax the man to drink herbal tea that she had brewed to perhaps help with the pain and help him sleep. But, this night the herbs weren't working well enough. His snores were turned into pained screams, and the constant shaking and throwing himself around had reopened the wound.
"Lady Everis, he has fallen ill due to fever," A healer who was holding down the warrior's forearm informs the head healer. Everis' eyebrows furrow in worry but also in guilt. She had forgotten in the most terrible way. Everis had not traveled the the Dragon Caves where a plant called Kings-foil grew. It had unique properties, it helped soothe an fever induced person.
"My apologies," Everis said through a clenched jaw. It was becoming harder to fight against the injured elf. The group of three healers including Everis sighed in exhaustion when the man passed out.
"I am afraid I have not retrieved any Kings-foil today, it had slipped my mind." The black haired healer admits. Lilith a blonde haired she-elf who was much younger gave her a small understanding smile. The times in the Grove were growing harder. More injured men were arriving, bleeding to death. Their injuries were so gruesome that some of the healers found it hard to look.
"Shall this dreadful war not carry much longer," Everis prayed, this war has been going on for far to long.
The elves all nodded in agreement, they stepped back from the sweating man. Clearly noting that they could do nothing until they had some Kings-foil.
"I will set off as soon as the sun breaks through the horizon." Everis tells them, rubbing the blood off her hands on a cloth.
"Shall we send someone to accompany you, my lady?" Lilith asks, her blue eyes showing concern, not wanting her friend to be in danger.
Everis shakes her head, "I will not be needing it, I know the way, and I am skilled with a dagger if I shall run into trouble."
What they meant by trouble was King Richet's soldiers. As the years went by more of them were finding was to find entry into the Grove. They all died not to long after, for they had to find a way through the Great Wall of thorns. Which was laced with poison deadly to all humans who came in contact with it.
That didn't stop them from using the last of their strength to find a vulnerable elf and wound them. Or worse kill them. Everis never understood why men were so power hungry. It seems that this war would never end.
"While they are armed with swords, and you a dagger. Such a fight would not seem fair." Lilith points out as the two bid good night to a healer.
"My dear child, Man may seem only like greedy rascals, but some are smart." Everis explains, the two proceed to walk out of the infirmary quarters. They're welcomed with the chilly night air, besides the lit lanterns; the stars and moon were the only light. "It is very known not to rush in to unknown territory, it is why the King's army travel not to far past the Wall Of Thorns."
The blonde lets out a huff, "I am afraid that does not, cure the aching worry deep in my chest. In these dark times, there is no telling what those men are capable of."
The head healer could not help but admit that her friend was right. While the Wall Of Thorns was nearly indestructible, that did not mean there is no way through.
Everis opened her mouth to say something, when a dark feathered Raven perched itself on her cloaked shoulder. In the bird's beak was a folded piece of manila parchment. She noticed the familiar wax seal, a silver C gives her an idea who it's from. Lilith takes a step closer curious of what the bird is holding, and watches as the healer grabs the paper.
"Þakka þér,vinur minn," Everis mummers to the raven in the Elvin language. It lets out a loud squawk and flutters away. With swift fingers, the seal is broken and two pairs of eyes read over the message. When finished reading the two were in shock; not believing a word that was written.
"I must speak to Lady Caleana. Get some sleep my dear Lilith. It shall be a big day for all of us on 'morrow." She informs the elfling. After that being said she runs off towards the fortress of the one they call leader.
