(Ariel)

A little black girl ran around their beautiful little condo's front yard trying to catch lightning bugs while her hair was curly and wild in every direction.

It was a clear night. The full moon was surrounded by a crowd of starts as if putting on a show. They twinkled as if cheering for the never ending cycle the moon took.

Her bright brown eyes sparkled with wonder on all the different lights the huge Country sky had to offer.

"Come here Mija, sit down and let me do your hair." A older more mature voice called.

She smiled and ran to the source excitedly.

I mean it was her mom after all. At six your mom is your best friend. When your that age your mom is your protector.

Your mom is your everything.

"I'm combing and braiding your hair today!" The woman said motioning her to sit on the floor.

"Mommy No! Its gonna hurt!"  The girl sat down reluctantly and began crying.

"Look Seven how about I tell you a story while I do your hair? Would that make you stop?" When the older woman said this the girl stopped crying almost immediately.

The woman's dark skin complimented her warm brown eyes and welcoming yet comforting smile.

"Tell me a story about New York Mommy!" She smiled clapping her hands.

"Now I won't tell you a personal story but I will tell you a story about my friend Armoni Ariel Jackson." The older woman smiled kissing her daughter on the cheek.

The Warm Georgia summer night air brought the smell of Honey Suckles onto the front porch. The crickets began to sing their song as the moon shown on the older woman as if a spotlight waiting for her to begin her tale.

Ariel POV🔥✨

It's was June 16,1992.

My alarm woke me up for the last day of school. The loud beep gave me a headache as the light coming in through my window landed on my eyes.

Ugh Morning already?! My thoughts groaned.

I reached for my kneck and sighed in relief.

My Key necklace was still there.

"ARMONI ARIEL JACKSON WAKE THE FUCK UP NOW BEFORE I BEAT YOUR LITTLE ASS!" My Mom screamed," I DON'T HEAR MOVEMENT!"

I literally rolled out of bed and fell on to my carpeted floor. I looked up into my full body mirror  for damage control on the hair situation. My curly hair was legit out in different places like I'd been electricuted.

My dark brown skin glowed in the morning light.

"HA-HA YOU LOOK LIKE A DIRTY Q-TIP ARIEL! " My little brother Cameron laughed at me.

"WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT COMING IN MY ROOM?! YOU SHOULD TALK LOOKING LIKE SULLY OFF OF MONSTERS INK! " I picked up a random pillow I had drug with me to the floor. I aimed at the darting little boy and hit him hard in the chest.

Bulls Eye! I thought with evil satisfaction.

He started crying loudly.

"Stop being a little bitch it was a soft ass pillow! How do you play Pee Wee football and cry over a pillow!" I grabbed the pillow back and felt the inside.

This one's kinda heavy...Oh shit! This the pillow with the money!

I hid it under my bed as I heard my Mom's heavy footsteps trek up the stairs.

"Ariel why is he crying?!" My mom yelled picking up my brother. I almost didn't understand her because her Puerto Rican accent was always heavy when she was mad.

"Cameron ran into the door by accident," I glared at him with a smile on my face and talked between clenched teeth," Right?" He nodded yes and my Mom put him down and went on the little balcony to smoke.

"Pay up!" My brother stuck his hand out and I gave him 10 dollars and a Tootsie Pop.

"Beat it!" I growled.

He skipped off innocently smiling and laughing like normal.

I sighed and looked down.

Another close call...

************************************

After brushing my teeth and getting ready,I kissed my mom's cheek.

"I'll be back after work." I grabbed an orange and sip of my mom's apple juice.

"When you gonna tell me where your little ass work?" She smiled patting me on the butt.

"Ayye. Don't do that! And does it really matter? I keep the bills paid." I checked the mirror one last time.

Today was going to be a good day. My eyebrows we're done perfectly. My bun came out perfect. My makeup ran smoothly.

Nothing could ruin my day!

I looked down at my clothes from Goodwill and rolled my eyes. I bought my brother clothes from the mall and that's all my mom thought I could afford.

Thought is the key word.

"Yea it does! I don't need you out here hoing! The school called me yesterday is there a problem we need to discuss?" She raised her eyebrow at me.

"Probably your approval on the summer AAU Vollyball games." I said running out the door.

I walked up the stairs to the dry beach we had on top of our building. I looked over the edge and saw. My mother and Cameron leave at the same time. I smiled and ran over to the chest I kept hidden under a tarp and took off my necklace unlocking my treasure chest of designer clothes and expensive sneakers.

"What shall we wear today Ariel?" I laughed to myself.

I pulled out my wheat Timberlands and a pair of white pants from Dr.J's. I grabbed for my crisp white wife beater tank top and orange windbreaker. I searched for my Gold hoop earrings with my name engraved on them and found them in my jewelry box.

Here we go.

I smiled in satisfaction. Now I knew I looked fly. Nobody could tell me nothing. I was all that and a price of cake.

I left my building and walked to the train station on 233rd. Today seemed like a good day to just walk and see what's going on in my city.

"Ayo DAAAAAAAMMMMNNNN Ma, what can I do to see you later?" A random dude and his friends called out on the street.

I rolled my eyes.

"You could get a job...a life...some money probably? Even then I'm not having it." I laughed walking off.

"Well FUCK you then BITCH!" He barked as I walked off.

I smiled.

You just did the wrong thing at the at the wrong time.

I turned around and shot the man in the shin. He fell over and began howling.

"Lady You Could've KILLED him!" One of his friends yelled.

"But I didn't." I smiled turning around and walking down the street.

The walk to the train station was always interesting. The city that never sleeps pulled with life. Different cultures with different people all blended like an artist on an pallette interested in the shades he can made.

What surprised me today was the show only two blocks away. From the station.

Your going to be late!
