Crazy Days of Summer

As expected Amelia is grounded until further notice. Her phone is gone. She is only able to use a computer for school and only in front of Lorelai. Rory is in Washington and not there to buffer, but is coming back. Amelia is working for Lorelai at the Inn during the day because she refuses to let her out of her sight again. Amelia is managing to keep in touch with Jensen while he's in Maine, but he is returning soon. She had avoided Liam like the plague. The rest of the story follows true. Amelia is 15, Rory is 17.

INDEPENDENCE INN

Amelia is helping set tables for a wedding this weekend. Lorelai comes to check in. The anger from Amelia's jaunt to NYC with Jensen is subsiding.

Amelia-"Do you want me to put these on the tables now or wait until tomorrow?"

Lorelai-"Now is fine." She pauses "Everything looks great"

Amelia-"Thanks" she sighs. She hates knowing Lorelai is upset with her but what's done is done. "Do you think Sookie can make me one of those grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch?"

Lorelai-"I'm sure she would love to. I'll go let her know let's meet in about 15 minutes ok?"

Amelia gives Lorelai a small smile-"Ok"

Amelia finishes making sure that the favors are at least on every table. She sits in one of the chairs and thinks about the situation that got her into this mess. She didn't regret it. She thinks back on the night. Jensen drove them to the train station and they took the train into Manhattan. They walked around a comic book store laughing and snacking on candy they bought at the M&Ms store. They got pizza and took pictures with Captain America and Iron Man. They watched street artists use spray paint to create images. They bought I <3 NY shirts. They took selfies at the Empire State Building and in Union Square. It was a perfect night. She feel asleep with his arms around her on the train home. Before they got back to Stars Hollow, he kissed her goodbye. They knew things would be bad. He promised to email her and she promised to write back when she could.

When they arrived back to Amelia's house, Lorelai was waiting for her on the porch stairs with Amelia's handwritten note "MOM I HAD TO GO. I'LL BE BACK LATER. PLEASE DON'T WORRY. LOVE EM" Amelia could tell she had be crying. As she walked up to the porch Lorelai stood up to look around her.
Lorelai-" So, Jensen is back"
Amelia-"Just for the weekend. Mom-"
Lorelai-"No Amelia." She holds up the note. "You don't do this"
Amelia-"I didn't know what else to do"
Lorelai-" I can think of a few suggestions. What were you thinking? You knew this would make me crazy!"
Amelia-"I didn't mean for you to get upset"
Lorelai-"What did you mean then Amelia. Let me recap what I think happened and then you fill in the blanks. Your drug addict ex-boyfriend escaped rehab and showed up at the Inn and asked you to run away with him. You did but not before the boy you wanted to be your boyfriend showed up to surprise you with flowers. You took off with him to God only knows and now here you are....did I leave anything out"
Amelia is crying now. The way Lorelai made this whole night sound is not how it happened.
Amelia-"He didn't escape. He had a free weekend and wanted to see me for my birthday. I asked HIM to leave. I just talked to dad and he told me that he was leaving. I saw Liam and I didn't care. We were in New York."
Lorelai-"Perfect. Just perfect. What if something happened to you?"
Amelia-"Nothing did"
Lorelai-"Ok Amelia. Here's how this is going to go. You are grounded until I decide you're not. Hand me your phone now. You need to take a break from these boys. Do you understand?"
Amelia-"I'm not going to stop talking to Jensen!"
Lorelai-"Yeah Amelia, you are. Look what he's done to you!"
Amelia-"Did you not hear me? I told you that I asked him to go. He only came for my birthday. And he's getting help! Why is that a bad thing?"
Lorelai-"He needs to get his life together. He needs to focus on...I dunno for starters not having a drug problem!"
Amelia-"I can't believe this" She puts her hands on her head. "You are acting just like grandma!"
And with that. The conversation was over. Lorelai's eyes welled up and she just turned around and walked inside. That was it. Amelia thought for sure Lorelai was going to send her to boarding school. She just sat on the porch crying for what felt like hours. After awhile Lorelai came back outside, sat down next to Amelia and put her arm around her.
Lorelai-"I need to know where you are at all times" Amelia leans in and Lorelai rests her head on Amelia's. "C'mon let's go" They stand up and go inside. That was the last time they talked about what happened.
