Ruby descended the stairs groggily, she was definitely not a morning person. It was not even seven in the morning; she would've slept longer but as usual, her mind was keeping her awake. When she walked into the kitchen, her stomach purred, reminding her that she hadn't eaten anything since last night. She turned the low light on and grabbed 2 pieces of bread from the bread pin and put them in the toaster.

Bug was lying down lazily in front of the couch, enjoying the warmth of the carpet, but when he saw her he made his way next to her. She scratched the dog behind his ears and streched her arms.

She sat down on one of the stools of the kitchen bar. Her eyes darted to the window that faced the grey clapboard house. It was a cold Saturday morning and Cedarwood Drive was not as busy as always. Snowflakes fell lazily, making their way to the ground. It was mid January, the trees were bare and snow was packed on top of every house. It looked like a perfect winter scene.

She searched around for the housekeeper, but realised she was probably down to her apartment, enjoying a day off. Her parents were probably still asleep. It was too early even for them.

She stood up to fetch the pieces of bread and put them on a plate, then she began searching the fridge for the butter. When her breakfast was prepared, she set it down on the kitchen bar and sat down.

She started tapping her nails on the cold surface of the bar, lost in thought.

Is the Count alive?

This question was one she didn't find herself able to answer. Actually, no one was able to answer whether the man that scared the living hell out of her was somewhere out there. She was hoping that she had seen the last of the person with the expensive Italian shoes . But as much as she wanted to never see him again, she couldn't forget the fact that he always found a way to get out of any difficult situation alive. She sighed and rested her head on the surface of the kitchen bar.

"'Morning kid. How come you're up at this early hour?"

Ruby looked up and saw the Redfort household manager walk in with a folder in his hand. She stood up to greet him.

"Well Hitch, sleep wasn't coming my way so..," she replied.

Hitch was the Redfort household manager (as he liked to refer to himself) for almost a year now, and has turned their lives around. Ruby, even though she didn't show it, was more than grateful to have him in her life. In spite of him being sometimes a pain in the butt, he was like a brother to her. He had saved her life more than a few times, and was always there for her.

Even when he sometimes wanted to strangle her.

Hitch poured some coffee into a cup and sat across from her. Ruby had a glass of banana milk in her hand and was ready to enjoy her breakfast when her watch beeped. She put the glass down and looked at the Bradley Baker watch on her wrist.

A message flashed across the screen, making her groan in protest.

HQ IMMEDIATELY.

Hitch raised an eyebrow.

"Why won't they let me enjoy my breakfast for once?"

Hitch winked at her and sat up. He made his way to his appartment with his coffee in hand, but not before he called,

"Well, you could just eat later kid,"

Ruby glared at him before heading upstairs to her room.

Once in her room, she put on her boots, scarf and hat and and picked up a brown paper box that sat on her desk. She scribbled a few words on a piece of paper and put it inside.

She made her way downstairs and eyed the leftover breakfast. She sighed again and headed towards the back door.

Ruby stepped through the metal doors of the elevator and was met by a friendly young man surrounded by colorful telephones.

"Hey Ruby, Blacker is waiting for you," he said, raising an arm in greeting.

Ruby mumbled a good morning, but instead of heading to Blacker's office, she made her way to a place she was hoping to avoid. She knew the kind of security codes he used, so it took her a few seconds before she made swiftly her way in and left the package carefully on his desk. She checked the time and left the office, just in time to bump to her least favorite person in the whole darned HQ.

"Little girl! Watch where you're going!" his voice bellowed, but she resisted the urge to call him more than the usual potatohead.

It was one of the very rare days she didn't want to be rude, so she kept her mouth shut.

"What, no smart-ass replies?" he looked at her suspiciously. Ruby resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

"No, not today," she mumbled and Froghorn's brow furrowed. He looked at her in disbelief as she offered her hand for him to shake. Froghorn did so reluctantly, utterly confused by the gesture.

He didn't have time to utter a word as Ruby had already walked past him, feeling embarrassed.

Froghorn walked into his office and closed the door, still baffled.

What just happened? he thought. Was that some kind of a joke..?

He looked around at his desk absentmindedly. His office was always ordinary, everything in place. Well, almost everything...

His eyes stopped at the brown box sitting on his desk.

He opened the package to find it filled with donuts. He was even more surprised to find a small piece of paper. He opened it full of curiosity.

Look man, I don't want to be sappy and sweet and all, but I do know that I would be toast that night without your help. So...thank you.

P.S. You are still a potatohead to me.

He just stared at the note, then at the donuts, and then back at the note. He couldn't help but smile a little, still thinking if this was really happening.

Well, mabye she isn't that bad.

He set the note back to the box and shook his head. He would eat these later.

He sat down to work on a case he was recently assigned. He pulled out a green folder from one of the drawers and started rummaging through it. He found the papers he wanted and started reading.

But a few seconds later, he found himself eyeing the box that was lying innocently a little ways away from him. He then looked at the assigned workload and signed.

He set the papers aside and grabbed a donut from the box.

"Just a little break" he muttered.

Hey everyone! This is Agent Kekoa (@RubysHogwartsRobes)

I love the Ruby Redfort books, since they contain drama, action and of course friendship. I really believe these books must be a movie/s (I think I'm not the only one)

I wrote a little oneshot, 'cause why not? It is set a bit later after the BAYD.

Tell me what you think on the comments, and of course thanks for your time!

P.S. English is not my first language. Feel free to point out any mistakes you find :)
