Gasping with over-exertion James settled me on the couch, and quickly followed suit. Being in the middle of the crowded Ministry was nothing short of petrifying, and the fact that people were paying me no mind was doing nothing to calm my ever-mounting confusion.

James was analyzing me, looking me over, this insufferable look of pure relief etched on his face. "We thought we'd lost you, mate." He muttered,  just audible over the buzz of human activity surrounding us. The words, however, were wasted on me, as I made no attempt to comprehend them. I had instead returned to my previous endeavor— convincing myself that this was indeed death. It was however fruitless as the next event would finalize, and ultimately confirm, my misgivings.

"SIRIUS, SIRIUS, OH,  THANK MERLIN YOU'RE ALRIGHT!" It was not the exclamation that had such drastic impact, but rather the person who issued it. A much younger Remus was standing in front of me, his relieved expression identical to that which James had not yet ridden himself of.

Remus was certainly and unequivocally alive. So undoubtedly was I as well. But, of course, by that logic, so was James. The entirety of that concept was unfathomable. I was relieved of these suffocating thoughts by a single word, name, her name...

"Marlene"
