(Patrick's POV)
Here I am sitting alone in the front of the bus going to Chicago High School. The front of the bus is where the loners like me sit. You see towards the front of the bus kids who suffer from carsickness are sprinkled in with the loners who have no friends. I don't mind sitting in the front because I'm no where near bullies. All the bullies and popular people sit in the very back of the bus. I don't know why, I once sat there and I hated it. It smelt of smoke and sweaty teenagers.'Hey Patrick' a girl said as she walked passed me. She looked familiar as if she could've been one of my sisters friends. Unlike me, my sister Peyton had many friends and was liked all. She had a nice group of friends that were always nice to me. Her and her friends did everything together and I was always left at home. Sometimes I wish I had friends like my sisters but not everything is meant to be. I guess I'm just not meant to have friends.
After years of going to the same school I've gotten used to the route we would take. My sister and I were always the last stop, but today was different. Today instead of going straight to school like we usually do we stopped at a brown house in town. I saw a boy who looked as if he was my age walk toward the bus.
It's sad that you can tell a lot about a person without even talking to them. For example if they are always listening to music, they probably don't like talking to people. This boy had dark hair covering his face and wore a Metallica shirt. He would fit right in with the popular crowd. He looked as if he had the word popular written all over his face. I don't get why they are even called popular. Everyone hates them anyway
The boy said something to the bus driver then started walking my way. This gave me a better glance of him then before. He had dark brown eyes and had a nice smile. He sat into the seat across from mine.
Why would he sit there? He would have a much better time talking to people his own speed. If anything, people like us will only scare him away. Does he not understand that we don't have friends and that we would only lower his popularity ranking.
"Hello" he said with a smile
His voice kept playing in the back of my mind. His voice was quiet and calming. The type of voice that your parents use to calm you down. I could listen to that voice all day if he'd let me.
"H-hi I'm Patrick"
"How come your sitting all alone, don't you have friends to sit with?"
I know he wasn't trying to be mean but what he said hurt. I don't have friends, nobody on this side of the bus has friends. I wish I had friends but I don't. That's just how life is, you don't always get what you want.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that"
"It's okay I'm used to it"
"I'm pete"
Pete, I liked that name. I liked how it was short yet simple. Now that I think about it, the boy looked like a Pete.
