I tapped my pencil on my desk. Struggling to focus on my work I decided to take a break. It was late and I needed to stay awake and finish this paper to turn into my editor tomorrow. I headed down and repeated my schedule to myself over and over again. "At 8 A.M. tomorrow I have a job interview with someone. Then at 10 A.M. tomorrow I have to show the new guy around. After that is paperwork at 12. Then lunch from 1 to 2:30. Once I finish lunch, I have more paperwork. Hopefully I finish that around 4." I grabbed my coffee and continued to ramble on about my schedule. "Then from 4 to 6 I have to work on my paper. Finally to finish off my day, I have to interview that new author Mendel." I let a sigh escape my lips as I grudgingly made my way to my desk and continued to deal with my paper.
I glanced at my clock. 12:30 A.M.
"Ugh!" I cried out and quickly finished my paper and printed it out. Tearing it away from the printer I stuffed it into my binder and shoved my binder into my work bag. Marching to my bedroom I slammed the door open. As any normal sleep deprived zombie, I flopped onto my bed and set my alarm for tomorrow. Imedietly I passing out afterwards.Beep! Beep! Beep!
"Shut the hell up..." I groaned and felt around on my nightstand for it. Finally finding it I tossed it off the nightstand and the alarm clock fell silent. Getting out if bed I yawned, and I began heading to my bathroom to get ready for the day. Combing out my bed head, I straightened it and began applying makeup. Slapping on my work cloths for today I grabbed my coffee waiting for me at the end of the counter. Snatching my bag off the stool, I quickly excited my apartment making sure to lock the door behind me. Making my way down to the first floor of my apartment building I sling my bag over my shoulder. The elevator door dings and I take a sip of my coffee as a limo waits patiently for me at the foot of the road. Slipping into my seat the driver rolls down the black window between us.
"Where to today?" The male asks.
"Sky Fall Publisher please." The man nods and begins to drive. I call up my assistant as my coffee slides into a cup holder.
"Ms. Erhart, you have the schedule for today, yes?" She asked, her voice sounding tired and monotone.
"Yes, I believe you have some paperwork to do. Am I right?" I asked her.
"Yes, I'm working on that now. Your interview also arrived early, he's been in the waiting room for a while now." My assistant informed me.
"Ah, I see. I'll be there soon."
"Of course, good bye Ms. Erhart." The tired women on the other end hung up. I let out a sigh and gathered my belongings before I reached my destination.
"Here you are Opaline, hopefully today's gonna be better than yesterday."
"I hope so to, see you later Arthur." The driver nodded to me as I enter Sky Fall Publisher. The door man opened the door for me as I strolled in, his emotionless face staring off into space. As soon as my prescience is known coworkers and journalists crowd around me.
"Ms. Erhart! Over here Ms. Erhart!" They called out.
"Ms. Erhart, when are you going to get married?"
"When do you plan on giving the company on to your successor?"
"Who is your next interview going to be!?" I attempted to speed past them as they bombarded me with questions. Camera lights flashing every where like strobe lights. This place felt more like a club than a Publisher. Security finally stepped in and created a barricade between me and the paparazzi. I made my escape into the elevator and quickly went up to my floor. I became disheveled after all of that. Fixing myself up a bit to look appealing at the very least.
Ding!
The doors to the elevator slid open to rows and rows of desks and computers. Few people here and working. It is quiet early so that isn't anything to be unexpected. I take a deep breathe in and let it out quickly, wiping a cheery smile on my face. I had to make sure to stay positive even if I'm surviving off of a few hours of sleep. I organized my desk to the best of my ability once I reached my work room. My phone began to ring once more and I saw that it was my assistant again. "Hello?" I began
"Ms. Erhart, are you in your room?"
"Yes. Could you send the man I'm supposed to interview up here please?" I pleaded
"Of course." She hung up and I got out the males resume that was set on my desk before I got up here. Quickly glancing over it before the pair reached my door.
"That's interesting, he enjoys making video games..." I mumbled to myself. Soon beginning to chuckle to myself when reading about his family. Day dreaming about the places he'd like to visit. Honestly this guy seemed a lot like me just... less famous. I was snapped out of my trance as my assistant walked in with a male behind her. "Hello!" I greet cheerfully. "Take a seat please!" I gesture to the chair in front of my desk and he takes a seat. I notice him fidgeting a little, and a nervous expression written on his face.
"Th-Thank you for seeing me today." He stuttered out.
"Not a problem." I give him a smile, hoping to clear the tension a bit. The assistant nods to me as she closes the door behind her on her way out. "Let's begin. Tell me about yourself, any hobbies, or things you do on your time off?"
"I enjoy making video games and maybe a little writing if I find inspiration." His response was short and sweet.
"Any family members?"
"I have a younger sister in middle school. And my parents live out in the country." He informed me.
"So why'd you move here to the big city? Or do you take the subway in every day?"
"I moved because I wanted to try out the city life." There was a pause, "U-um if you don't mind me asking, but why are you asking about my family and such. Most people only ask about my hobbies and what I'd label myself as."
"Well, I consider it a part of my job to get to know my coworkers. It helps me know what work you'd most likely be able to do or would be fine doing."
"O-Oh..." The male fell silent.
"Hm... Might I ask why you came to Sky Fall Publisher of all places?" I threw the question out there for him to ponder upon.
"Mm. Most companies I went to rejected me so I doubt I'd have much luck here. But can't help but try right?" He chuckled awkwardly to himself, "And I heard that this helps correct my little sister's favorite book series. So I'd be able to give her little sneak peaks into the books." He confessed.
"I see. You may be dissmissed, I'll make sure to email you weather you are hired or not." He stood up abruptly before nodding his head
"Thank you once again Ms. Erhart." He then zoomed his way out. I took one last glance at his resume,
"Stevyn Seaward. Hes interesting alright. Let's see if his crown of wreath does him any good in this kingdom of mine."
