One man was murdered during a prison fight. Who killed that man remains unknown to all. Yet there he laid. Dead, cold, and littering the ground. All of the prison guards disappeared into the unknown. The electric fencing and spotlights were out. The giant gates that prevented people from escaping opened. Anyone was free to leave, yet we all fled back to our cells. A mob of people pushing and shoving. Many toppling on each other and being left to be devouered.

"NO! NO DON'T LEAVE ME!" They cried a hand stretching out for anyone to stop and help. But every one kept running. A wave of orange pouring through the halls. The sound of cell doors being slammed close and locked shut and the hallways red from the flashing lights. Sirens drowning out all of the noise. I managed to scramble into a cell with a stranger. We both slammed the door shut and an iron wall covered our view from the hallway. We were safe. I fell to the ground in a panting mess. My limbs were shaking as the bed squeaked when the stranger sat on it. Loud thumps could be heard alongside the screams of pain. All muffled by the iron shield in front of our prison cell. They began the shortening.

"I'm guessing your a newer prisoner. Am I right?" The stranger asked. His voice was raspy as he pulled back his chocolate brown hair. A few scratches along his chin and blood red orbs that held secretes unknown to man. I nodded in response, starting to sit up as I rested my hand over my beating heart. It was beating wildly from the sudden rush of blood that was coursing through my veins. "What'd you do to end up in here?" he asked. As if the shrilling screeches of pain didn't bother him what so ever.

"I don't know to be honest." I informed him.

"Hm." Was his response. His gaze turned to the iron wall in thought. "Do you know what that thing out there is green horn?"

"No sir."

"We call that thing Azrail. He isn't an angel but he sure brings a ton of death, from the name we've given him you sure can tell. When the shortening comes around this happens all the time." the male crossed his legs and swung his foot back and forth. "So green horn, what's your name?" I stretched my I.D. tag out for the male to read. "Alright kid, why don't you stick with me and I can show you the ropes."

"That... would be nice." I said and sat next to the male. "But, do you know why I'm here. Or what that monster looks like?"

"Well first off. I've never seen Azrail. So we can only imagine. But by the sound of his feet, he sounds large and heavy. Yet swift enough to chase you down and, well, devour you. As for yourself, I have a little information from the rumors that spread around these grounds."

"Can you tell me all of them? I can't remember why I'm here at all." I admitted leaning in closer to hear what he had to say.

"The reason you don't remember is because they wipe your memories."

"They?"

"The scientists and the brains behind all of this. It's like a game to them, and we happen to be the lab rats."

"This is some game? A fricking mental, twisted, psychotic game?" The male nods and continues

"From what I've heard. Your not here for a felony of any sort. Your just, not natural, I guess would be the best way to describe it."

"What do you mean by "not natural"?" I asked.

"Well kid. You've got super natural powers. Now that isn't normal. But remember I'm just going off of the rumors I've heard. And the few things I've picked up from ease dropping in on the guards' conversations." I stuffed my face into the palms of my hands.

"I can't believe all of this is happening." I mumbled. "Why is this even happening?" I questioned the stranger.

"Resources have been spread thin throughout the region. And they put people like you and me into a place like this. Reason isn't because of the resources, but the fact that we've either A: committed a terrible felony. Or B: Have super natural powers. Our execution is gonna happen someday. And that could be any day. And our executioner is Azrail. While people around the globe tune in to watch our every move and watch us parish."

"Are we being watched right now?" I asked.

"Most likely not. They're probably watching Azrail hunt down the runaways that are wandering around the halls. Like blood flowing through our veins."

"And the way to know when Azrail is about to come out is when someones murdered?" I asked

"Not quiet. The beast will either be released if that happens or if the guards disappear, the electric fence goes off, and when the giant doors open."

"Is there anyway around Azrail?"

"Not that I know of. If there were, don't you think someone would have escaped by now?"

"True." I said bringing my hand up to my chin in thought. "But what would we do if we did happen to escape?"
