"No turn here!" Trish shrieked in my right ear.
The tires of my beetle screeched with a sudden short U turn onto a car packed street near campus.
"You know maybe you should've drived us here instead" I blurted out.
"And have you shout at me for slowing down on the red light? No thanks" Trish responded as if reading my mind.
I smiled to myself. My bestfriend knew me too well. I liked to drive fast. I liked to move fast. Despite my short figure, I walked as quickly as my legs could take me, and I always got scouted to run for the Birminton track team. But back then I was focusing myself on work, studies, and responsibilities. I used to spend half of my day on a train moving back and forth from home to college, I had to reject the offer.
"That's it this must be the Beta House" Trish points out to a two story house a few meters away.
Hearing the pounding rhythm of the music in the distance I had no desire to rush any further. The lane was lined up car after car, displaying the magnitude of the sorority party we were crashing. My hands clenched the steering wheel as I squeezed into a spot a block away from the party. This was my first college party and I had a bad feeling about it.
"Trish the skirt you gave me is too short and I feel home sick already I can't do this" I declared for the hundredth time.
"It looks gorgeous on you and you'll be fine" she patted my leg. "Gabriel and Mike are already inside so hurry up."
"Ugh" I sigh adjusting my glasses.
Anything to get away from my room I guess. The last thing I wanted to walk into was Damon and some drunk friends hungover on my bed. It was hard imagining him hungover though , he's got this cool cold exterior that even alcohol couldn't seem to break down. I wonder what he does on the weekends. Does he even have friends?
"Hurry up!" Trish was already out of the car wobbling in her heels when I looked up.
"Well just remember!" I shout out " If I get uncomfortable I'm gone. You catch a ride with Gabriel!"
We run across the street, the party ruckus amplifying the closer we got to the Beta House. So that's what a college party's like...
Red solo cups littered the lawn, and people filtered in and out of the house, enjoying the balmy cool night. Several guys I recognized from class lunged out of the front door sloshing drinks in the process and almost tripping.
"Great" I mumbled pulling my skirt further down my knees.
"Hey Trish! how's it going?" Ashley Beckham one of Gabriel's "playmates" and Beta sisters approaches us pulling her in a hug.
Her breath reeked of alcohol and I winced.
"Party's pretty awesome huh? " she boasted clearly drunk.
Trish half heartedly hugs her back "Yeah ! Um have you seen Mike and Gabriel around?"
Ashley steps away wobbling "Yep!" she lifts a finger. Gabriel's in the backyard with some chicks, n Mike's in the kitchen taking shots."
At the sound of Mike's name my heart relaxed and the nervousness eating me up turned into happiness.
Trish waves off to Ashley, grabs my hand and drags me into the kitchen. Upon entering the huge mom's dream kitchen I spy the makeshift bar on the center island. Bottles of liquor cover the granite top along with pieces of lemon and a bucket of ice on the sink. For the first time ever since prom, getting drunk seemed tempting.
"Where's Mike?" I shout out to one of his football friends sipping from a bottle of Jack Daniels.
"Mike?!"he answers me a bit too loud "One of his friends got fucked up so he had to take him home!"
