Meggie sat on a branch, she let her legs dangle above the ground below her. She needed peace and quiet. After what Fenoglio had told her, she needed a place to think. He wrote a story where Meggie gets married to Doria? She couldn't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. She loves Doria, but she also loves Farid. Her heart wouldn't decide, it left that for her to do, for her to decide. She looked down at them. Doria was looking after the kids, playing with them and swinging a little girl around in the air playfully. Farid was putting on a show with his fire, he still had the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen a boy have. Meggie smiled down at them both, her heart beat faster for both of them now, butterflies exploded for two. Why did the heart pick two instead of one, why did love have to be so cruel? She glanced over at Fenoglio's nest, hoping to find some answers in him. He didn't look back. He was too busy finding the right words that would save Mo once again. Mo, that's what she really ought to be worried about. But love didn't care, she wouldn't be focused on Mo until she finally spoke up and chose one. She had to do it quick. How is she supposed to help Mo if she was split in two? This was the best way to go. She had to hurry up and pick one. Doria or Farid? Meggie focused all her energy on the best and worst things about them both. Who did she like better? Hurry up and pick, Meggie! She told herself. You can't live your life like this. Pick! A few minutes of silence passed. Meggie clenched her fists and pounded her lap. She just couldn't choose. Love was cruel. If she couldn't pick, she would just have to wait until Mo had killed the Adderhead. Push away all thoughts of the two boys and focus on helping Mo, on reading what Fenoglio would write. The right words to save Mo, to save them all.

Meggie got up and walked swiftly across the branch and grabbed one of the ropes weaved from creepers. she carefully climbed down the tree trunk-
Snap!
The rope broke. Meggie started to fall. She screamed louder than she ever had before, hoping someone would hear her on the ground and come to save her somehow. She clamped her eyes shut. She didn't want to see her bones cracking. She didn't want to hear them either, but she didn't cover her ears. The sensation that she was falling stopped. Warmness surrounded her. No crack of her bones came. Meggie slowly opened her eyes to find she was staring straight into Doria's beautiful eyes. He smiled at her and squeezed her tight as if to say 'I'll never let you fall'. Meggie's heart beat faster and faster, until something came over her. She suddenly leaned forward and pressed her lips tightly against Doria's, her eyes firmly shut. She had a feeling that Farid was watching her, green with jealousy. Meggie felt like pulling back but she felt Doria pressing back. Her impulse was over and she pulled away. Everyone's eyes were on them- the Black Prince's, Elinor, Minerva, all the children- even Fenoglio stopped writing and stared at Meggie. Meggie couldn't help but blush. She scanned for Farid's face among the rest- and she found him, staring at her in disbelief and jealousy. She met his stare and she couldn't help but feel like she cheated on him in front of his face.
