Fairytales are stories created to sell dreams that come with too high a price. The nursery rhymes make these bitter truths all the more sweeter
“Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who is the most ugliest of them all?”

Maya can't concentrate all through her lessons. Jason Hart actually spoke to her. Not that it's amazing but it's quiet unusual. See, in school it's a hierarchy.

People tend to climb up these wasted towers with crooked ladders to earn their plastic crowns of fake glory just to be accepted by society.

Now Jason Hart is one of the Kings of this school's hierarchy. He rules in his relentless tyranny. He tramples over the weak and flaunts over the meek and helpless.

It's very rare for a person at the top of this social pyramid to associate with those at the base. Those who carry this pyramid, who become the stepping stones to those who want to be Kings.

So this is what makes it all unbelievable. What does this mean? Does this mean people are starting to recognize her? Well it's about bloody time. Being known as the person who lives in the shadows of others becomes very tiring.

The bell rings and Maya walks towards the cafeteria. She grabs her plate of food and goes and sits at her desolate table, her hood covering her face.

Why would Jason want to go with her out of all girls? She knows Jason is bad news and he's obviously scheming something and although she makes up her mind that she won't fall for it, deep down she hopes it's not a trick. No Maya, don't over think this, she scolds herself.

Being alone gives one the tendency to over think issues, it's pretty much inevitable. It gives a person time to think, that's bittersweet all on its own. It gives you the chance to think of the things that you are greatful for in life but at the same time it makes you think of the most painful things.

You think so hard and so much you dwell on and see your imperfections straight on. You see how pathetic you are. That's how Maya sees it.

People always came up to her, shaming her that she makes herself seem depressed just for attention and that she didn't know what real depression is. It reminds her of an incident that occurred a few weeks ago..

"Oh, hi Maya." Maya looks up to from her untouched food to the source of the perky voice. She sees Shelly Gilbert and her friend, Tasha Bilkins. They are nice girls from Maya's class, down to earth and sweet.

Well that's what Maya thought.

"Hey." Maya answers back.

"How are you?" Tasha asks as she takes her seat next to her.

"I'm not feeling so good." The words leave Maya's mouth, as smoothly as taking her next breath. Tasha and Shelly look at her weird.

"You know, Maya. I know there are people who have different reasons for seeking attention and the approval of others but you should really stop that." Shelly says.

"What?!" Maya is bewildered at Shelly's words. Her heart begins to pick up speed at these words.

"You shouldn't act depressed just cause you want people's attention, that's what she's saying honey." Tasha says so casually like it's nothing.

"There are so many other kids with actual problems and reasons to be depressed. You don't. You have amazing marks, the teachers adore you and your parents are together. Just drop the whole pity party coz nobody's gonna attend it, stop pretending you're depressed when you're not. You don't know that there's other people with these actual problems." It takes Maya time to process Shelly's words.
