"Like on a scale of one to ten her ass is a-" Drew was cut off by Mrs.Jackson telling us it was five and that we could finally leave.
I quickly gathered my bag and sprinted towards the door not giving Drew a second glance in fear he would continue his sexist comment on Claire, but the minute my feet hit the concrete pavement of our school parking lot a strong, firm hand grabbed my elbow and pulled me into their arms.
"Why did you run off so fast, we didn't get to finish are little chat!" Drew said while wiggling his eyebrows.
I struggled with getting free from his grasp, but eventually broke free and continued my walk to my car.
"Hey, did I do something wrong?"
"Yeah, you are falling for the completely wrong girl and can't open your eyes long enough to see a girl that likes you for you, flaws and all!" is what I wanted to say.
"No, just don't feel like listening to you and your sick perverted comments." I said over my shoulder.
Drew jogged to where I was and fell in step with me while walking to my car.
"Come on, you know you love it when I talk dirty!"
I stopped walking and looked up into Drew's sea of soft brown eyes. Sighing I began to talk when a car horn interrupted me from behind.
My throat ran dry and my pulse quickened when I turned and saw a pink Mustang fixed with its very own barbie, Claire.
"Hey Drew, need a lift?"
Drew turned to me as if asking for permission to take her up on her offer.
I shrugged replying with a simple "Go."
"Thanks Sage, your the bestest friend ever!" He gave me a quick kiss on the forehead and jumped into the pink Mustang.
As they exited the parking lot I mumbled to myself "Yeah, friend."

When I arrived home my father was seated in his favorite rocking chair that sat my the window watching the latest golf game, while my stepmother was preparing dinner in the kitchen.
"Hey sweetie, how was school?" he asked, his eyes never once leaving the tv.
"Ohhh you know got a F on my science test, beat up some freshmen wondering the halls, and was offered to smoke pot with a couple of seniors under the football bleachers after school. "
"Sounds fun."
"MARK, DID YOU EVEN HEAR WHAT SHE SAID?" my stepmother yelled from the kitchen.
"What, of course I did!" My father responded turning his head away from the tv and to his wife in the kitchen.
"So now we support failing grades, bullying, and pot smoking?"
"Why of course not!" my father then turned to me with a questionable look on his face.
I patted his shoulder as I walked upstairs to my room.
I was in the middle of my algebra homework when my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Sage!"
"Drew?"
"Who else do you know who has this sexy of a voice?"
I scoffed, "Did Claire hit a speed bump to hard or something?"
"Ha...ha...very funny, but no. In fact she's an excellent driver!"
"Really?"
"You caught me, she's a terrible driver. I seriously thought I was going to die at least five times on the way home." he replied with a chuckle.
"Ahhh barbie is actually bad at something." I replied with a smirk playing at my face.
"Yeah, I think I'll stick to carpooling with you from now on."
A huge grin was plastered on my face at this point.
"What are best friends for?"
"You know you really are the best Sage?"
"Yeah I've been told once or twice!"
"Seriously, I don't know if I could ever ask for a better friend."
And there it is, the notorious 'friend' word.
"Yeah well I guess your pretty great too."
"Damn straight! Hey listen I got to go Claire is calling!"
Before I could respond the phone line had been disconnected and the line went dead. My ears now ringing with silence.
Getting Drew to notice me as more than a friend was going to be harder than I thought.
