Ezrie is finally starting to get good at it. She has hit the tree a few times now. I can tell she's getting tired because she grunts every time she shoots and is getting farther and farther away from the target. "Alright you can stop now." I say without drawing my attention away from the fire I'm building. "Oh thank god!" she says collapsing to the ground. I laugh a little. "Oh just wait, there's more to come." I say to her. She groans and rolls so her face presses against the dirt.

The fire starts up and I set the pan over the fire. I wait for it to warm up a little more and then set the deer on it. The smell rises to my face and I breath it in. There's nothing like the smell of deer on a cold night approaching. "Dinner is being cooked." I call to her.

"Yes!" she pops up and runs over to the fire. Fast for a girl who was just lying face down on the ground. She sits across the fire from me and plays with her thumbs. I haven't really noticed this before but she seems kind of tall for her age. She can reach the branches I could just barely reach when I was nine with ease. Well I was sort of a shrimp.

I flip the deer meat over and it sizzles. I see out of the corner of my eye Ezrie staring at the meat with wide eyes. It sort of freaks me out so I look away quickly and shake the picture out of my head.

When the meat is done I take it out and set it on a couple "plates" for us. I hand her a plate and she takes it. I blow on the meat a little to cool it down then pick it up and take a huge bite out of it. It is so good. I glance at Ezrie and she sits and stares at me looking appalled. "What?" I say through a mouthful. "You didn't even use your knife to try and cut it." She says surprised. "So?" I say swallowing. "So you look like a pig." She says insultingly. "Well I don't expect visitors typically over here." I say sarcastically.

She turns to her food and stares at the ground for a minute. I wonder if she's plotting a way to kill me in my sleep. She grabs the meat and tries to tear little piece off. She digs her nails into the meat and tugs hard. I chuckle a little. "Good luck with that." I say mockingly. She shoots me a glare and continues to pry at the meat.

"If you keep doing that you won't break a piece off until all the coyotes are out here helping you." I say a little snottily. she shoots me another glare and takes a giant bite out of her meat. She stand up and stomps over to my house and sits in there. I'm alone outside with the sun setting behind me. I finish the rest of my meat and throw my plate to the ground.

The coyotes will come soon and probably lick my plate clean. They probably already have to both me and Ezrie's plates. I probably shouldn't tell her about that, especially that I don't wash them. I cringe a little at what her response might be. Then I stand up and spit on the fire. The flames start to die down and the surrounding area starts to go dark.

I walk over to my house and join Ezrie in there. She sits leaning against a wall munching on the deer. I sit across from her and start to settle in for the night. Then, I hear some rustling. But it's not like wind rustling the leaves rustling, it's like a living thing rustling. I slowly grab my spear and start to get close to the door.

"What is it?" Ezrie whispers. Probably sensing something's wrong. "Shh, stay quiet." I whisper to her. I see a figure in the bushes and see that it's just another person. It shouldn't be hard to get them out of here. From where I am I can't tell if it's a guy or a girl. The person comes out of the bushes and I see that their going toward my campfire. Shoot.

"Stay far back against the wall." I whisper as quiet as possible to Ezrie. She nods and settles up against the wall. I slowly stand up with my spear in hand. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" I ask the mystery person trying to sound threatening.

"I'm just exploring, I mean you no harm." The person says. I can tell it's a guy now and he sound about my age or older. "Well leave, I'm trying to get some shut eye." I say a little crabbily. "Henry?" Ezrie says crawling out from underneath my legs. "Ezrie?" the guys responds.

She runs up and greets him with a hug. Who the heck is Henry?
